Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for October 03, 2012
Transcript:
Brad: "I heard about Quill's odd reply to your love letter" Luann: "Well, look what just came in the mail" Brad: "Your letter!" Luann: "Returned. 'Insufficient postage' Quill never got it" Brad: "Wow. So you're right back where you started" Luann: "Is it true that some people live lives that actually progress?"

Ah. Some readers were spot-on. Luann’s letter was never delivered. SO what was Quill’s “we have to talk”???? Hope Quill proves to Toni she was SO wrong when he says “I kind-of love you” to Luann. Teenage boys’ idea of love, that is. And Luann says it back. Quill and Luann would be great role models for Brad and Toni. I would LOVE the irony. >D

Next time, go to the post office, get an air mail envelope & THEN pay for the sufficient postage.

Quill is going to live with his uncle ;)
Packer12 about 12 years ago
People, it is just a comic strip (without comedy)!!
piloti about 12 years ago
This was called long before yesterday, by several readers.

All that crazy attempted mail tampering and intimidating/threatening police for nothing!
lance96816 about 12 years ago
Ha, I knew her letter was going to have insufficient postage. International mail requires special envelopes, paper and extra postage.
9thCapricorn about 12 years ago
It’s getting a bit TOO predictable. :)Yep. Hope Greg reads further down than he normally does and sees this.
greenbird about 12 years ago
Yawn.
Ali Bkk about 12 years ago
International mail does not require special envelopes – just sufficient postage and “Air Mail” written by hand somewhere (or not.)So Quill’s coming back? Does Luann even know how to Skype? If yes, why haven’t they done so?

OMG, Quills Pregnant.

Luann’s last question is resonant and universal. Oh well, probably back to the daily punches and jabs in tomorrow’s strip.

Maybe Quill’s going to gently break the news to her that he’s coming back to propose to Tiffany. The happy couple will join Gunther & Rosa and Aaron Hill and his girl friend in a 3-couple wedding on a beach at sunset in Hawaii.
Sisyphos about 12 years ago
So, Quill’s note was not a response! —As I had suspected. Now, Luann needs to wake up and realize the implication: that Quill has initiated renewed contact with her and “needs” to talk. This could all be good, Luann, and making progress!
Peabody429 about 12 years ago
Quill will say that he got some girl pregnant, and that he’s really sorry and that he will try to get his life back together down under. The shared thought around Luann’s friends and family will be “whoa, that could have been Luann getting knocked up!” and they will all reflect on that.

That, or that Quill is gay,

Rather than Charlie Brown’s “pencil pal” letter (on which CB forgot to put a stamp, revealed when asked by Linus—leaving CB vacantly staring at the reader), it worked out more like Michael’s (Patterson) letter to Deanna, which he mailed (fortunately, Brad didn’t dup Liz’s after-action, and add enough postage—yet).

Wow. The problems teenagers have.

don’t mind them Greg. Some of us (and quite a few, judging by the amount of comments)* love your work

Yes Luann, just not in this comic strip. . .

I predict Luann’s doorbell ringing in the last panel on, maybe, Saturday.

Donny, I’m going to try just once more to express my puzzlement over your opinions and posts. After this, Nada. First, I don’t argue that Evans could be winking when he draws Aaron, & perhaps Quill – though I don’t see it. If you stretch it, both could be described as effeminate, but I see them as gentle, sort of like Ox is. Ox doesn’t get violent (yet), he just warns people.Second, don’t be too concerned about Knute, he’s just comic relief and helps Crystal be a little more human. He’s a little like TJ, but more flaky and less manipulative.Third, I don’t know why you’d think that I have complaints with Evans and email him about them. We DO email, occasionally, but more for information, and questions than anything else. I think it’s YOU that have the problems.Fourth, It’s altogether possible that “all the under the radar stuff” DID go over my head and I “didn’t get it”, but humor me and let me interpret what I read as comedy with a dose of common sense for teens.Fifth, you’ve said several times that you’re about to give up on Evans and not follow his strip anymore. I’d hope you could make good on that promise so you don’t continue to be aggravated by the “hidden messages” that you claim are there.Have a good day – you NEED it!

Right back where she started? Not so. Quill made his move unprompted. This is good. I just got a vision in my head of Luann in a wedding gown. Or was that Edda in Chickweed Lane?

Email?

Quill’s gonna tell Luann that he’s finally realized he’s gay; and he’s met this really nice boy from Hawaii named Aaron.

I call BS. An insufficient postage letter would have been back within a day or two.
Mordock999 about 12 years ago

Our heroine DIDN’T put enough postage on that letter for Oz after all.

ceecee, having to write “air mail” on packages went out a few years ago when the Universal Postal Union (the international governing body for international mail) did away with international parcel post. now it all goes by air & 1st class intl. goes up to 4 lbs. after that it goes priority intl.
marvee about 12 years ago
Your response comes close to what I was thinking. Lives that progress? Not in a comic strip!
marvee about 12 years ago
Luann mentioned early on that they were Skyping, so why isn’t Quill “talking” that way? Or by cell phone? “We need to talk” often signals a breakup – “this long distance relationship isn’t working, I’ve found someone here” would be most realistic. But I’m hoping that he’ll appear in person with news that he is going to go to the local community college.

A bit of unwanted advice… I you wait to date until you actually want to get married, then you don’t usually have these problems.

“Is it true that some people live lives that actually progress?”
Not when you’re a comic strip character who has aged only four years since 1985. Nobody gets older in “Luann” or most strips. That only happens in strips like “For Better Or For Worse” or “Gasoline Alley.” Otherwise, I don’t think Little Orphan Annie has ever even changed her dress, which probably single-handedly resulted in the retirement of at least one Maytag repairman.
yangeldf about 12 years ago
you want a life that progresses? Go to For better or for worse or gasoline alley!

Well put. Can’t ask for anything else, really, from any poster on this or any other comics board.

Donny Wallace – pleae marry me. I know you want to. you could help me pick out the colors in our own comic strip we would create together. Your hand on the right button, my hand on the left. Paradise!
