If everyone was like that, Danae, they would never accomplish anything in Congress.

why is it that the older I get that the ACLU does not appear to be working for me, an American, and my interests, but for everyone else and their whining and inane wants/needs or desires?

LordDogmore & loudmouthbass, the ACLU gets a bad rap from folks who hate whenever it challenges a sacred cow, but it truly only takes on cases where constitutional rights are affected. It would not even come close to entertaining Danae or anyone like her.

BTW, the teacher’s response might be, “Gee, in MY culture, we eat loudmouth children.”

njchris - I think we’re in the twilight zone between closing of the polls and announcement of the winner. If my old brain cells aren’t failing me (again), I believe the winner will be printed on Dec 17

Yes, there was a winner voted by the readers, and it will be published on the 21st. I’m not telling you any more than that!

cdward has it right both times

The ACLU defends the Bill of Rights regardless of the qualities (or lack of them) of the suppressed. It’s lawyers who defend our liberties.

And that would have been a good comeback for the teacher, but in today’s teaching climate, she would have been the one to get in trouble.

The ACLU is very good at surrounding it’s agenda with rhetoric that makes it sound like they’re looking out for our rights when in reality they are following a very rigid agenda of suppressing them. See “The ACLU vs. America” by Alan Sears and Craig Osten. The ACLU is actually fighting anti-obscenity laws that prohibit the distribution of child pornography. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want that “right” defended.

ACLU Founder Roger Baldwin was an elitist who felt that only a small group of intellectuals has the capability of understanding and dictating what everyone else should believe. (ACLU press release, 11/4/1998)

Pay attention to foxnews and the townhall terrorists from the summer when Congressmen and women tried to talk about the health plan or any other Govt idea that didn’t fatten the wallets of fox news corporate masters. Thats what Wiley is getting at.

“Thats what Wiley is getting at.”

No, it’s not, but I can see how you can make a reach to see that. But it is a reach nonetheless. There is no hidden-between-the-lines political message here, just a joke within the series.

As Wiley has mentioned many times before: sometimes a ‘toon is just a ‘toon. And a great take on Danae as usual. She is the world’s most selfish child; she even makes Calvin look like a piker. If she and Calvin would only use their powers for good instead of evil.

I always thought that Jim Baker should have had to find a way to heal the deficit instead of being sentanced to 600 years in jail. Same as all the bank fraudsters, today.

Such hard work to squeeze the cartoon of the day into the pet-peeve of the month (or millenium). Take up knitting, at least you’d have a sweater at the end of it, or a loooong sock. I’m just saying.

Poor Wiley, always having to remind everybody that the strip is not about politics. It reminds me when Orson Scott Card was asked about the “deeper meaning” behind one of his short stories (I believe it was called The Carjacking, or something like that) and he said he just thought it was a fun story. Not everything is a statement. Somethings are just entertaining.
