Pastis looks like a guy who went and had surgery.
legaleagle48 about 12 years ago
Words fail me as to just how awful I think that pun is!
rf_eq about 12 years ago
tunnels are a boring topic
Havelock_Vetinari about 12 years ago
As punny as the Punic wars.
Arianne about 12 years ago
Well, Rat, I’m glad that Stephan has punnel vision.
Sisyphos about 12 years ago
We shall call him “Sad Little Man.” “Cartoon-Boy” just doesn’t get the job done anymore. When Rat is right, he’s very, very right.
Sportymonk about 12 years ago
Afraid I don’t get it.

Bennett Cerf: “People who make puns should be drawn and quoted.”

His mind works? I thought it was out for repairs!

Rat get the gas can. He deserves nothing less.
knight1192a about 12 years ago
From puns to tounge twisters. He anit a sad little man, Rat. He lower than a slugs belly.
bethy85 about 12 years ago
Why, on a COMIC STRIP forum, would anyone choose to tout their egotistical points of view for or against Christianity and its teachings? Who the heck cares? I’d say 99% of us are here to look at comic strips and smile and laugh and start off our day right. Believe what you want, have your discussion, but I’d have it somewhere else that doesn’t suck the LIFE out of what’s supposed to be a light-hearted, happy forum.

On the demise of the “Tiny Bubbles” singer:.“OH NO, DON HO NO MO!”

I still think Rat should have added one more line: “You sad, sad little man.” Meanwhile I love the strip.

@Sisyphos: Thanks for the link yesterday. Seeing Cartoon Boy in an interview was……interesting..@bethy85: Best to ignore them.

Might the English Channel Chunnel Channel be an educational one about spelling? Either way….OFF WITH ’IS ’EAD!
Vonne Anton about 12 years ago
Will reply later this evening when there aren’t so many commentators who get annoyed with religious discussions….promise!
flagfly about 12 years ago
I thought the chunnel was finished long ago. I wouldn’t want to use it…think of the weight of the water above you.
hariseldon59 about 12 years ago
Alliteration. Reminds me of the sea anemone enemy story line.
dutchs about 12 years ago
There’s an even better channel. They’re going to line the walls with fabric to cut vibrations. The planning sessions are on the English Channel Chunnel flannel panel channel.

Am I the only one who totally LOVED the cheesy wordplay joke? Wait…. should I be embarrassed to admit that?
Whoa. Awkward.
Piksea Premium Member about 12 years ago
I am so sad to say that I actually agree with Rat on this one. However, thinking up that stupid joke, probably required a great deal of smarts. Hmmm.
Bill Chapman about 12 years ago
Not a pun – but worthy of an equivalent …. “reward” for it’s creation.

Yeah. He’s sort of sad. But it got him through another deadline and another check in the mail.

I agree with Rat. Pastis mailed it in on this one.

Cue the fox in socks and Mr. Knox!
Sherlock Watson about 12 years ago
Nitpick moment: Some of the people here don’t seem to know what “alliteration” means. It’s when all the words start with the same letter, like in “Sighted sub, sank same”: it’s not just another word for “tongue twister.”
Rickapolis about 12 years ago
All Pastis has to do is erase the little rat and he’s gone forever. Rat might want to think about that.
KEA about 12 years ago
what the hell?
kzturtlegirl about 12 years ago
The station requires sponsorship, so it’s really the Chanel English Channel Chunnel Channel
ttarkA113 about 12 years ago
Pastis is a sad, strange little man, and he has my pity.
bmonk about 12 years ago
At least Pastis didn’t write about the cable channel of mediums and their spirits from the south of England—the Channel Channel Channel.

I was expecting: The English Channel Chunnel Tunnel Channel

while i am quite fond of mr. p’s occasional plays on words, sometimes rat’s retorts can be just as hilarious.
chriscc63 about 12 years ago
actually I think this was a rather good pun and its better than most of his other word plays like this one.
Varnes about 12 years ago
Cinqufoil, a pun is when a different word is used for another word that it sounds like for comic effect…no substitute here….Homonyms make good puns……….
sandigilbo about 12 years ago
I love Pastis’ sick, twisted, original, word-playing mind!
tazz555 about 12 years ago
Try saying English Channel Chunnel Channel 5 times fast
SusanSunshine Premium Member about 12 years ago
A pun is based on homophones and misplaced meanings…. “Give peas a chance” and “Sticks float… you know they wood” are puns.
What Pastis did up there is called “consonance” … using repeated consonants for comic or poetic effect. It can also be called “parachesis,” which is repetition of sounds in general, especially whole syllables.“Fox in Sox” uses consonance and also is full of internal rhyme.Does anybody care? No.Why am I telling you?Because I can.:)
Buggerlugs about 12 years ago
Pastis is alliterate.
Vonne Anton about 12 years ago
Pretty sure Spamgaard is an atheist, too. We don’t e-mail from this site because none know the other and resist sharing personal info. I see his “offensive” (not to me) comment is gone, anyway.
BillWa about 12 years ago
Not his best, but they can’t all be zingers
Perkycat about 12 years ago
Say what you will about the comic and Mr. Pastis but you all had fun with it.
@Susan Sunshine – thanks for the education. I won’t remember it though.
Snoopy_Fan about 12 years ago
It’s sad but true. Networks have become so narrow in focus. It wouldn’t surprise me if there really was an English Channel Chunnel Channel….sponsored by Chanel….
Vonne Anton about 12 years ago
A sad thing happened here today among the commentators: freedom of speech was squashed by ignorant bigots.

I missed the religious comment problem here and, for the life of me, can’t see where one would apply. I love Mr. Pastis’ humor, though. :-)
marshalljpeters Premium Member about 12 years ago
I sure wish I could edit my comments.
SusanSunshine Premium Member about 12 years ago
MPeters …. You could try to remember to select and copy every comment before you post… it only takes a second….
(Right click, “select all”, then “copy”…. OR Control A, then Control C)
That saves it to the clipboard, so if you goofed, you can immediately delete, paste, edit and re-post.
Doesn’t help with comments you made previously but at least it has saved me from some strange typos and such.

Thank YOU for the sea anemone links….I gotta stop reading them to get to the new strips!:)
Reppr Premium Member about 12 years ago
Do they have to funnel traffic to the channel chunnel? If so, the show could be about the English Channel chunnel funnel or even the English Channel flannel channel funnel
Commentator about 12 years ago
Almost as good as Annie Mae the sea anemone enemy.
