Y’know, I’ve never seen this version of Petey smile. A couple of times, right after Mallard put him in this, er, whimsical robot body, he seemed about to break into a smile in dialog, but, lately, no. (Not that there’s been much to smile about, but Wally and Holly managed to smile here and there.)
The transporter version of Petey seemed happy-go-lucky enough to crack a smile once in a while—-but he didn’t have a working face to do it with…
Oh man! So all Flask had with her man was that very short reprieve, after all. I too wonder how she got her nickname. This might be a silly guess, but it came to me last night – maybe Blackie is for “Black Sheep,” since at one point Flask was a black sheep of the Topsiders in her disagreement with some of their practices and willingness to turn into a mutant for Petey2b?
Petey: “You know, I do still have one memory, one very vague one. There was this woman. She was in a Topsider suit. And she came to visit me when I was tied up in some room. And then, and then, there was a lot of pain and suffering! That was you ripping me open, wasn’t it!”
According to Flask’s recollection, “He” had never seen Flask after her change. So, how would Petey have recognised her? In my mind I hear Flask’s voice with a “meowing” catlike quality…although her voice could be more influnced by one of the big cat types (cougar, lioness). In any case, her voice would have changed too. So how would Petey recognise her? Also, before we saw Flask’s story, I’d considered that Flask’s recollection of her love affair was mostly a product of her obsessive personality. Back then I’d thought it was another Topsider she’d stalked. Now it seems that she loved a mutation-immune Freebeing. But was what we saw what really happened? If Petey ever gets his memory back, and we see its contents, he might have a different explanation.
How was PT2B a “hero?” Admittedly, I can’t recall a lot of things these days, including anything he did that could be construed as heroic while he was with Flask. SHE rescued HIM, remember, and he was gone without a trace (or explanation) when she woke up. John Wayne, he wasn’t , although the currrent incarnation of Petey HAS done some pretty brave things.
I wonder what REALLY happend during this part of their time together. If I were in Flask’s position I would have started out by explaining who he was, where she found him, what he had told her, maybe even what had transpired between them. According to Petey, she’d never told him who he was and seemed to spend too much of her time stalking him. Oh well, its dangerous for an aspie to ponder the actions of normal people.
I’m back.Been out in the area inventoring weapons.Yes TSOJ we still use normal weapons. (Ha)To the panelsThe question remains. How did he Petey know her “nickname, pet name” was Blackie.A vision does come to mind.Remember when she referred to how CLEVER they can be in those suits.Could “relations” have been done prior to mutating? Conjugal visits many times before she made the final choice to be with him without the suit?Just throwing that out there. It’s creepy but thrown out there. It does make for a possible explanation. Her “Love” overtones have a deep desire tone of one who has “done it”. Liked it and seriously misses it.Maybe that is Petey’s confused “We did What???” look. It is like he is saying “Seriously, you and me did what? Look all I remember is hauling ass around. Not getting any.”
Still it is a very serious somber scene.“I gave it all to your and you never called me back.” Panel 3.Ooops There I go again.I apologize to all the pygmies in Africa. GET R DONE.
That 9 volt model must be a hoot. I heard of AA models, a few D sizes. You know for MASSAGES. (You sick people)(Trying to type though the tears while you a giggling uncontrollably is very hard)See you all on the side.Peace…..(Just peace not piece) OUTI can’t stand it any more. LAUGHING out of control, vision dimming, shaking uncontrollable, fingers loosing dexterity, lights fading……………..
Just because she hopes Petey was her lover doesn’t necessarily mean she is correct. I’m rooting for Aaron Marx to either have been her lover or have rescued her lover. He seems to care about her a great deal.
To surfstuff55Mythbusters did a rifle. Not a 40mm grenade laucher. Remember the size of those rounds. Obvious explosive.Lost recoil fluid in a M60 tank while testing in Alaska. Fort Greeley. Arctic Test Center at the time. 105mm cannon. One round. I was the loader. The recoil tore the housing aroung the tube clean off allowing the whole barrel and breech block to fly back into the rear of the turret nearly tearing turret off the turret gear. I was out the loaders hatch in flash. I was still hooked up to coms. The gunner was still hollaring LOAD LOAD. The commander had his leg shattered by debris and was yelling nonsense. The gunner finally noticed the smoke and debris and began a rapid evacuation over the poor commander with his shattered leg. The driver just sat there asking “Can we move now?”I finally regained my composure and said “Naw Just exit the lower belly hatch. The turret is stuck.”I was just saying about how she go blown back.I still say MARX put his finger in the barrel.

Maybe now she can cry for someone besides herself.

Petey: “You’re my long lost… what…? Naw, I don’t think so. I’m not into cats. Besides, I already have a life-partner.”

@ 3 Steps My life partner is a 9V battery (well at least for a year). I change it same time as smoke detectors.

And wow. Petey looks so disgusted in the last panel, especially juxtaposed with Flask trying to be tender with him in the third panel. ;3; Rejection.

Hmmm…all we’re really missing is the explanation of why she started hacking into the Topsider rocket project and her plans for the “mission”.
