Wow! Now we know what was in the box, and why it merited calling inTracy. But after 70 years, I think that confession will only lead to a dead end (pun intended).
What I really like is Lee’s expression and response to the “quiet week” quote. I love how I can just “hear” her voice saying that. And I’m with ya VB. Team Tracy has a good one up their sleeve once again.
thank GOD!! looks like lee ebony is gonna figure into this storyline (with luck!) i still remember the first day she walked into the MCU/MCS Office and joined the cast… i thought she was gorgeous then, and she’s even MORE beautiful now! as for the whole thing turning out to be a “dead end”… i dont think team tracy would waste EIGHT WEEKS of their time (and ours) on a story like that…wonder how long before tracy calls in george on the case. i just hope we get to see a LOT more of lee! the only thing that could make this BETTER would be if johnny adonis joined the case too, but thats not gonna happen, i know that much at least! lol :)
It appears the brilliant college prof put his hand on the document, further contaminating any evidence that might be there. Hasn’t he ever seen an episode of CSI, or a similiar show? These days, almost everyone knows to use gloves, etc. when handling what could be a police matter.
Speaking of 3-D characters only yesterday, another from the Dick Tracy Yahoo Board (actually, .D.D Degg) shared some past cover art from the Comics Buyers Guide. Covers all done by artist Terry Beatty.. Terry as some may know, did much of the art for Max Collins’ other comic characters including Ms Tree.
On the link you’ll note, that the Tribute Cover has several Tracy characters created by Gould, and added are a few of the early designs by Rick Fletcher of Max’s creations.. Of some interest, is the face of 1953’s 3-D MaGee who Ken had recalled. It appears in the top line – (3rd from right) – of this cover.
The specific Dick Tracy Tribute Cover appears in the 6th position as you scroll down.
Now we know why Sam & Lizz were so conveniently called out of town; the colourist gave Lee blue eyes, while not impossible, there are black people with blue eyes,it’s kind of rare.
I realize that the story is a work of fiction. If the timeline of the creation of a manmade lake is 70 years, that would mean that they flooded a camp that was still being used and full of people. FDR authorized the Exectutive Order in Feb, 1942 and the order was rescinded entirely in Jan. 1945. Shortly after that the internees then began to leave the camps. Like I said, I realize that the story is a work of fiction and that Mike and Joe can alter the facts to fit their story. Sorry, but having known people that were actually interned, the story doesn’t work for me.

TAKEIS TO JOIN DICK TRACY IN FIGHTING CRIME
Dick Tracy will be inviting the help of characters modeled after real-life actor George Takei and his husband Brad on his new case starting January 13.
Near Tracy’s city, an old Government Resettlement camp from World War II has been covered over with a man made lake for 70 years. Located are clues to a murder cold case, and Tracy contacts one of this friends who was interned there, actor George Takei (under the name of George Tawara).
“I am boldly going where I have never gone before,” said George Takei. “I am looking forward to the trek into the world of Dick Tracy.”
The story should run around 8 weeks and promises to be gripping
It does state that the lake has been there for 70 years.
Is that snow outside the window in the first panel? Looks like it disappeared by panel 2. “Oh the weather outside is frightful”!^^The first panel shows Tracy and Lee driving to the University (note the “speed lines”), you can see Lee’s seatbelt on the far left, in the second panel, they are inside, in the professor’s office (obviously, a bit of time has passed)….the colourist made the mistake of making the office walls the same blue as the sky outside the car window, in panel one.
1. The confession is in a ziplock bag.2. The confession dates back 70 years (that would make it 1942 or ’43).3. There is no indication of when the dam that created Lake Freedom was erected, although it was probably post-war.4. What freaking bottle!?!?
Wonderful explanation Mikeyj, I am impressed & bow to your insightfulness!!! You win todays Dorlock Holms award. Thanks!^^thx, of course, it doesn’t hurt that I’ve been a cartoonist (Albeit amateur) for over 40 years! << GODDDD i’m old!!!
Looks like the powers that be don’t like Dorlock. Oh well. Mikeyj, don’t short change yourself. you’re far removed from amateur!^^TY… mind you, I don’t mind the term amateur, since I am not a professional… ironically, I do think I can draw as well as, and in some cases better than several of the pros
Um, that’s kind of harsh Tsull, I can see how someone might make that mistake, especially when the colourist used the same shade of blue on both panels… The guy has been for the most part behaving himself, as has Otto, we should be encouraging them both, not ragging on something so trivial.
Chikuku said: “Last time a box like this was found in DT, it contained a human heart being kept artificially alive!!!!!!!!!”I LOVED the Smallmouth Bass, Olga, & Dr. Aorta story from the early sixties! It was post-Space Coupe 1st appearance, yet pre-Moon Maid. One of Gould’s best!

And of course there’s no statute of Limitaton on a Murder so even if he’s still alive, then there COULD be an investigation

I wonder if it’s a case that Dick Tracy originally worked on. Will they say it was his grandfather or something?

Does anybody have a link to Lee’s first appearance?

Unless that lake was within the Chicago city limits, Tracy has no jurisdiction.
