    Good morning™, Christmas Early viewers!

Gould named the circus “Circling Brothers” after the famous Ringling Brothers (ring=circle). After 146 years of performances, Ringling Bros. finally shut down in 2017, partly due to issues surrounding animal performances.

This reminds me of the first Batman series and how they created near sounding names to familiar places like the isle of “New Guernsey” for “New Jersey” and so on. “Chime Square” for “Times Square” were fun.

It would be very cool if our split-personality escapee had somehow subsumed the personae of the Circling brothers, ala Norman Bates/Mother from “Psycho”.

An animal free circus? How did that work out for Ringling Brothers?

It’s been a half century, so my memory may be off, but wasn’t Zelda connected with Half-and-Half? Maybe someone said that yesterday. But it might indicated the escapee from the asylum.

Zelda has hardly aged a bit from when she was introduced in the latter part of 1966 as the mistress of Haf and Haf. Odds are he is the one who escaped from the institute and killed those doctors. Chester Gould was able to stretch Haf’s episode up to the Spring of 1967. I am going to watching and reading as to what Stanton and Curtis are able to do.

For anyone interested in reading the original Haf-and-Haf story arc, you can read these strips at the ilovecomix Directory here:

    https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BxFzQHAkRpqybzNDZ1FfamJrSkk

This is the closest I can link the story. You will need to search the thumbnail links to access the strips. The story begins slowly on November 2nd, which is labeled dt661102.jpg. Haf-and-Haf doesn’t actually appear until December 8th (dt661208.jpg).

The ilovecomix Directory is a great resource if you wish to learn the history and origins of characters revived from Chester Gould’s days. You can read all about the Lunarians, Mysta, the Moon Governor, Matty Square, Mr. Bribery, Ugly Christine, Posie and Mindy Ermine, the Chin Chillars, and Haf-and-Haf and Zelda.

Zelda is as lovely as I remember, and now she’s my hero. Animal free circus. Way to go, girl!

(I haven’t been to a circus in 30 years because of just that. After all the abuse stories I heard, I cannot in good faith support them.)

Animal-free circus? That’s not circus. Cirque du Soleil is not circus, either, in spite of their name. They are just a bunch of very good acrobats in unusual environments. Circus was peanuts, popcorn, cotton candy and animal acts. Liberty horses, elephants, trained seals, dogs and big cats were the heart and soul of circus. Too bad our PC society has decided – in ignorance I might add – that training animals is cruel. My friends in the circus world would disagree and be able to present positive proof. All PETA can do is wail “oh, the poor things” over and over until folks get tired of hearing it.

oe’s take on Zelda is strikingly reminiscent of Mysta Chimera (and that’s not a bad thing). But I wonder if she has the Business Smarts to make a go of a non-animal circus (thanks a heap, Animal Rights activists who will accept only the most radical solution to a problem)? I can already feel the hairs on the back of my head standing up as the new-and-“improved” 3 Faces of Haf n’ Haf stalks Zelda with full evil intent….
