I know . . . I know . . . Mom and all (and it’s a comic strip.) But would a real life Alex even bother involving her mother, especially with Zeke in the picture? She must realize that nothing good will come of having JJ do anything more than sit on a pew.

My Dad was a Baptist preacher, the most unusual wedding he prescided over was when a cousin and his fiancee drove arrived in the middle of the night to be wed. My two sisters and I were woke up to be witnesses.

Miscalculation by Alex: she should have gone along with the Hawaii/mylar/calliope/Siamese carp wedding and never mentioned Connecticut. JJ could plan and have her wedding (“her” = JJ’s), and she’d probably never even notice that Alex and Toggle never showed up for any part of it. Everyone’s happy.

The best way to plan a wedding when you have a mother with her own ideas is to plan it all out, pay lots of non-refundable deposits and then present it all as a done deal. Or do like my parents, who called Dad’s sisters, said “We’re getting married on this day at 2:00, see you at the church” and then hung up.

I don’t get how carp relate to Hawaii. Can anybody explain that one?
