Performance art is just the simple art of doing whatever comes to mind and presenting it as ‘art’. Someone else may like it and give you money, others will just ignore it and leave you alone.
One band I was in was taking a break, and an audience member asked if she could do her performance art during the break. We said yes, and among the harmlessly goofy stuff she did, she also started rhythmically slapping our microphones. The microphone owner just about died on the spot.

“Performance” art is too ephemeral… the art evaporates as soon as the performance stops. An art form for our times, but not for the ages.
