If their “bad elements” were “perfect little gentlemen”, as Boopsie said yesterday, they must come from a paradise.

Actually, the nearest star is 93 million miles away, or about 8.3 light minutes.

Was this whole arc an attempt to land a shot at Australia? …maybe. I think I heard New Zealand snicker a bit.

Why would aliens take the time and trouble to visit us anyhow? Maybe to them it’s like our visiting the zoo.

Sad that Zonker is both the voice of reason and the one with the ideas

This is why I think UFOs are time travelers, not space travelers. The technological barriers are similar.- the need for an essentially infinite energy source,- but at least the target destination is definable.

Not so; this is a clever play on the reality that the Ozzies’ early population was composed primarily of convicts shipped from British prisons. That’s why they’re so happy, aye mate? Drink helps compensate.

Makes perfect sense. Getting sent to earth is a punishment for bad extraterrestrials.

No doubt the Martians will reach a comparable conclusion when Elon Musk and his pals show up there.

Good to know they have some appreciation of hard science, and non-US history. That likely puts them ahead of the average American.

Boopsie seems unusually literate in this strip compared to her usual self. Would the articles in the Enquirer have discussed cryogenics and Australian history?

The closest planet which is believed could possibly support human life is orbiting Proxima Centauri. It is only 5,880,000,000,000 miles away (give or take a million or so). The greatest speed man has ever achieved is 24791 miles an hour. So, if we could build a ship that could maintain that speed for the 237 million, 182 thousand and 848 years it would require, and somehow maintain life support and have no mechanical failures, we could get there. At that point, there is really no way of knowing if it could actually support life. And, assuming that it could, the life it is supporting is quite likely to decide “there goes the neighborhood” and shoot us out of their sky. We aren’t even willing to put out the effort to quit using the fossil fuels that are destroying the fragile ecosystem we have. Humans are able to breath a very specific atmosphere, eat foods that are produced by a very specific range of soil, etc. We are a part of this earth, when we destroy it to the point that it will no longer support our life there are no viable alternatives that aren’t science fiction— with an emphasis on the FICTION part.

This is what happened in the CW series “The 100”. Earth was destroyed (again) but after another 100 years or so the survivors, who had been frozen, were able to come back to another planet (actually a moon) and fight to take over.

Panel Two: One of those very rare moments in which Zonker is the voice of reason. And he appears to be clean and sober while he does it. Amazing!
