The head of IBM once said the world might need as many as 5 computers. A true visionary.
Funny thing.
The reason IBM became a big deal is that the government mandated businesses keep accurate payroll records for taxation purposes. Before computers, they were making time clocks…
My father was in a Merchant Marine convoy to SE Asia in WWII. The ships in front and in back of his were sunk.
Dad did OK financially without buying IBM…
…but didn’t IBM CEO think there wasn’t a market for more than 10 computers in the world? (or perhaps that was much earlier than this timeframe).
The scary thing is that IBM had already been in existence for quite a while back then.
Ford’s subsidiaries in Germany made a lot of money producing military vehicles for Germany’s WW 2 war effort…
Ford and Thomas Edison were such great pals that when Edison moved to Fort Myers,Florida—-Ford bought up the land next door and built a house there
