I’ll take the pizza. I don’t care about the turkey and don’t eat ribs.

Pizza sounds good, but I’m not sure they’ll be open on Thanksgiving, so I’ll put about a pound of additives on a frozen one. Pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, peppers, black olives, and lots more cheese should do it.

Fewer people are having turkey which means fewer turkeys are being raised. Which means they will be more expensive in the future.

Most cooks know enough to get their own supplies instead of relying on those who lack knowledge. Or, he could be saying the turkey has come straight off Christmas Vacation the last 20 years and its time to try something different.

I grill all year long. YEs even in the snow. This year is my turn to cook the turkey. Bourbon and Maple glazed rotisserie Turkey. I also bake the dinner rolls and pecan pie. Costco bakes the pumpkin pie.

I’m with him on this one. I’m so tired of having to have the same old dried out turkey that nobody actually likes all that much just to keep a tradition nobody remembers why we started.

I’m making turkey, ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, green bean bake, peas in butter sauce, cheese cake, apple pie and pumpkin pie. Nobody in my family likes cranberries so they aren’t part of our traditional family meal.

I usually work long overnight shifts at my hospital the night before thanksgiving. I just buy frozen half baked lasagna or pizza from my favorite pizza place. Pop one of those in the oven when I wake up that afternoon and enjoy while watching the cowboys get beat. Very little clean up, very little mess. Plus I’d much rather have pizza or lasagna instead of turkey anyday. I will make my dogs something special, maybe Liver with grarlic.

The writer Calvin Trillin used to campaign for spaghetti carbonara to replace the traditional turkey. I’d be very happy with lasagna.

Tradition for its own sake is always ridiculous. If you actually want turkey, great. Otherwise, why not have something else that you’ll enjoy more? Burgers, pizza, ham, chicken, vegan – you do you!

Turkey is actually one of my least favorite meats. Chicken’s better but won’t feed a crowd. We at least we started having roast pork on Christmas instead of two turkeys in the space of a month (and none for the rest of the year).

Thanksgiving is about gathering with family and/or friends to celebrate your blessings in a way that is meaningful to you. Whether it’s turkey, ham, seafood, ribs, brisket or tofu, it’s the fellowship and appreciation for what you have – no matter how little or how abundant – and that you have others with whom to share that fellowship. We do our version of “traditional”; please enjoy your tradition, too, whatever it is.
