Yeah, that ultimatum really only gives you the upper hand if it’s along the lines of “If you love me, you’ll get help with your addiction” or things like that, not for personal petty gain.
With Petey, the plugs were left in and the wires were cut, in Clive’s case, the plugs were removed, leaving the organic material exposed through the holes to potentially rot. It could be that Kirbee did dispose of a dead body.
So will the next strip involve Holly frantically digging as she desperately tries to unearth Clive or will she try sinking her teeth into Kirbee’s shin to try and get her to talk.
Wally and Holly’s first real test at their relationship. In the meantime unseen a Topsider PT rolls up to the area. What I really admire is Kirbee’s coolness about the whole thing.
Holly will regret those words for the rest of her life. It is unwise to rason with a person this upset, Wally already tried that, and he couldn’t get through to her at all. I hope this will put her back from the edge of losing everything.Sometimes it takes drastic measures to get things back. She is either going to physically attack him, or come to her senses.I would hope she comes to her senses.Otherwise they may need to make her a straight-jacket.Oh Holly. She hasn’t made sense since they left.Poor thing. I hope he “shoes” whatever that means do come back. This does seem to be a “demonic” thing.
Plus poor Chik, he is used to hearing this at his so-called home. Clearly being traumatized. This is child abuse. Again. He has lost his hat and doesn’t have a security blanket or a teddy bear, parrot, or whatever.I would love it if someone could scoop him up and take him a good distance away to from hearing all thiis.
If someone loves you, they don’t feed your dependencies, and they cut you off when you endanger yourself. Someone who loves you has the integrity and determination to say NO.Clive has no organic parts to decay, so the holes aren’t causing him any damage. They’re sealed anyway, because they’re data jacks, not open sores.
I’ve been reading this a long time, but I can’t think of an instance where the animal people have shown their animal senses to be fully functional. Can’t she backtrack Kirbee’s scent trail, or sniff around for that plasticized odor? Can Kirbee detect temperature gradients?
BUT, does the brain need some type of nutrients (as in Anne McCaffrey’s Ship Who… books). I realize that there the bodies (however deformed) were still involved, but if a brain is to remain “alive” it must get nourishment for cells from somewhere.
You realize, don’t you, that if Mr. Neathery knew precisely how to make a brain work in a robot car, he’d be out making them, not drawing this strip…and, geez, wouldn’t that be one hell of a world to live in?
I’m wondering if Holly wants to get captured, de-brained and put into a transporter. Clive had said he had no memory of his previous life and was essentially immortal. Might be something Holly finds appealing given recent events. Still, on some level that means forgetting Wally too. Though I doubt her current state of mind is letting her think that far ahead.
Re Holly: are there any of us who haven’t gone into a blind rage and shouted and carried on and said lots of things we’d later regret? And, at the same time, we realize that we’re out of control but can’t help ourselves. I think she will calm down and listen to the others, but whether or not she will ever agree with them remains to be seen. Still, she really doesn’t have much in the way of options – it’s go along or perish.
I GOT IT! I GOT IT! I GOT IT!Remember when Chic offered her a Twinkie from his stash? evidently she ate one (or more) and after six years of no or little junk food, this is the effect of coming down from a sugar high.

Love the indeterminate “No.” No I won’t make her talk, or NO, I DON’T LOVE YOU?

The old, tried-and-true “if you love me” gambit.
Hey Holly, “if you love me,” you wouldn’t pull the “if you love me” trick.

Maybe that NO is just the slap upside the head Holly needs to bring her back to calm. Or maybe not.

Also, Good for Wally. That had to be hard, but he did the right thing. I hope he meant “I won’t bully Kirbee but do I have to tie you up?”

I’m pretty impressed by Panel Two…and how Kirbee is about four Hollies tall.
