in the final panel, Mike Patterson looks like Matt Murdock in his crime-fighting outfit (excepting the eyes aren’t covered)

Was there a song titled “The Man in Red”?

Looks like Mike doesn’t follow instructions very well.

The neighbors will stop complaining. Mike does look a lot better now. And his uncle was right. He only had to cover the front.

All free labor should have to do the work manually – no power tools.

I wonder if that paint glows in the dark. Or is it reflective red paint. Elizabeth would like that. Then she could see Mike coming at her in the dark.

I love it!

But in any event, Mike is learning what it’s like to work.

I’ve done a little outside painting with a sprayer – it’s not as easy as you would think, and you would NEVER attempt it with any amount of a breeze – no matter how slight.

Hand the kid a 1inch brush and check back in a day or so.

When my husband & I lived in & worked for a homeless organization, one time we were asked to help paint the house. I learned 2 valuable lessons that day: I hate ladders, and never use an indoor-use paint roller to paint a house. (The man who ran the organization was sweet, funny, and generous…but quite a bit dense.)

Hey, at least he covered himself in one coat!

Sometimes the lessons we learn are simply that the people who are teaching us aren’t doing a good job or that we aren’t going to be good at it. Rare is the “naturaL born…” anything in nature.

Lynn’s Comments:

I hadn’t used a sprayer before. With a strong wind whipping across the fields, the paint landed on me covering my face, my clothes and my hands with red paint. To get the paint off I used gasoline. One of my worst moments in time was sitting in the bathtub covered in gasoline, which burned like crazy, and hollering because there was no hot water. In fact, there was no water at all. Stories about the farm could fill a whole series of graphic novels!

There goes the paint for that. second shed.

My son painted our metal fence as a teen and insisted using a roller. He looked like R2D2’s silver brother when he was done.

Well, Mike blew that one. Surprise!

Thought a monkey was in the strip for a sec.

I think Uncle Danny is smoking his profit.

On the other hand, the mask actually worked.

How long will it take to get all that paint off?? Poor Mike!

What would we ever do without you.

And when it’s obviously not working well, stop.

Look it’s the great red orangutan from Manitoba!

Yep – looks like Uncle Dan(?) forgot to tell Mike about what happens if you try to paint into the wind instead of with the wind :-) Don’t worry Mike – it’ll wear off – eventually….
