Someone once figured up how much the 1 through 12 ‘Partridge in a pear tree’ would cost, and then if all of the 12 days of gifts were added up. Then there is the problem of what does one do with all of the gifts. OK, 12 pear trees are useful, the fowl are edible, the gold rings worth it, then there are all of the people. Are they permanent, just there for their days. Of course, they have to be fed, maybe that would take care of what to do with the fowl.
10 lords a leaping, 9 ladies dancing, 8 maids milking? And all the animal and bird life scattering stuff? Unemployment and health insurance alone would break the bank, not to mention clean up costs.
What’s on your Christmas shopping list? Fortunately, for most people, they (most people) don’t observe twelve days of gift giving from December 25th to January 5th (the duration of the Christmas season as observed by many Christian churches).
And everybody knows Straight No Chaser’s version of this song, yes???? (The original from 1998 is the best youtube video.) Another song of theirs that’s a favorite is “All About the Bass, No Tenors”. . .
My shopping list is donations to family and friends to their favorite charities, mostly local based. We all have more things than we really need and often will never use. Others are not so fortunate. The young children do get gifts.

A fine tribute to Charles Schulz on what would’ve been his 100th birthday, in the Nov. 25 edition of dorktower.com.
