    And here a brief pause in memory of Alan Turing, the computer-genius cryptographer (and widely considered the father of computer programming) who cracked the Nazi Enigma code and was probably as responsible as any one person COULD be for winning World War 2. But of course his work was top secret, so nobody knew who he was when the British government subsequently hounded him to death for his homosexuality.
