here in New Mexico it ain’t a burger unless it has green chile and cheese on it … and that goes for hot dogs too, and just about everything else

No idea what that Chicago reference to time was about but I got the no ketchup joke.

The strip is set somewhere in Michigan, in the Eastern Time Zone. Chicago is across Lake Michigan in the Central Time Zone.

Here is the geographic progression…Frazz, is near Ann Arbor someplace…head west into West Michigan, then SouthWest Michigan, then Michianna, Then ChicagoLand, and then the Loop. Park anywhere….

I tend to avoid cheese melted on food…a chemist once convinced me that heat turned cheese into a casein rubber and was indigestible by humans.

Don’t look at me. Somebody check this…

Love it. (and I grew up in Joliet) Reminds me of the sign at Gold Coast Dogs in Midway Airport — “In some areas of Chicago it’s against the law to put ketchup on a hot dog”

I love ketchup on a hot dog and nothing else. Does that make me crazy? No, I’m already crazy enough.

In the south I’ve seen people put mayonaise on their ’dog.

Yesterdog in Grand Rapids, Michigan…mmmm and yeah, we put ketchup on hot dogs, meatloaf, just about everything but soup.

Aw. Nothing like a Cincinnati coney dog….cheese, chili, onions. I miss them…..

I’m mostly concerned by what appears to be a White Sox logo on Frazz’s shirt. Bad form.

Mustard for me, or once in a while with some cheese, jalapeno peppers and chili con carne.

When we last visited LA we ate at Pink’s. Sorry to say it’s less than ordinary. The chili dog I make in my kitchen is much better.

I’ll have to admit to having tried a good many different condiments on hot dogs and, if you haven’t tried it, you might want to look into chutney.

My dad’s side of the family is from Pittsburgh, so we use plenty of ketchup!

However, my cousin says he grew up eating mustard on burgers and ketchup on hot dogs, and didn’t care much for either. Then he switched the condiments and now he likes both.

Chicago dogs are supposed to include a slice of pickle and celery salt. I have no idea what celery salt does.And I eat them with ketchup, sometimes with cheese and chopped onion, but always ketchup. I may have lived here for 15 years, but apparently I am not a true Chicagoan.

mustard, katchup, onions, relish….all basic. Everything else is “add ons”.

Mustard is nasty. So are relish and sauerkraut.

Ketchup is the default; if there’s nothing else, there’s gotta be that.When I have access to it, I’ll do Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, and black pepper (no ketchup).Chili cheese dogs are one of nature’s perfect foods (no onions).And once in a while, peanut butter.

Now if only there were hot dogs that didn’t reek of chemicals, preservatives, GMOs, insecticides, pesticides, and made out of CAFO critters. :-( :-( :-(

I guess if I ever want a hot dog, I’ll have to figure out the recipe and make ’em myself!

Wait a second. Used to be that MI was on EST in the summer. Same as Chicago on CDT. Did the farmers change their clocks?

I’ll put what I want on it, it makes no difference to me anyways!

Costco dog with mustard, ketchup and relish. My standard Saturday lunch (and then I’m too full for much supper).

I never knew before reading these comments, that people ate hot dogs without ketchup and relish. I grew up mostly in north central Indiana, with a few years in Ann Arbor during my early years. The only other way is chopped onion and a little mustard on Spanish dogs. Are chile dogs something like Spanish dogs?

When I was a kid I ate plain hot dogs, just the dog on the bun. Haven’t had them for about 25 years or so now, because of the contents of most hot dogs, but now I would have stuff on em, the more the better…

Why do TV programs come on at a different time than the other time zones? Do they go to bed earlier? Or, is it so they can be lined up with NY, Detroit, etc?

I’ve been around 60 years eating just about every variation I’ve read here. The one thing I would add is that the Amish in my area sell these large plump delicious dogs that I buy for grilling. Start with a superior dog and you can double your enjoyment of the condiments, or burn one naked.I am a bit surprised that more readers didn’t rave about the New York street corner vendors and the mustard & sauerkraut variation.

Hot dogs have recently become a popular street food along side tacos and garnaches in Belize. We serve ours with sauteed onions and mayo, mustard and habanero hot sauce are optional toppings.
