One Elvis……Well, I never….I’d like to hear what Allison and Veronica have to say about that!……..And what about the Angels that want to wear his red shoes? Jeeze people!
Elvis was also a winner in his field of endeavor and someone who showed the limitations of wining. He did better than a lot of other rock stars, and was apparently still rich when he died, still he never struck me as a truly happy individual. Did his accomplishments ever yield happiness and fulfillment?
Football players get taken out of the game for exhaustion, but it’s not uncommon for competitors in the Tour de France to lose several square inches of their skin in a crash, only to get back on the bike and finish the race.
I’m a true-blue, dedicated football fan, but even I got a bang out of the comment that one linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys made back in the 1970s: “If this is the ultimate game, how come they’re going to play it again next year?”
On the other hand, just last night I watched Elvis Presley in the movie Blue Hawaii. God, it was SO awful!!!
False logic. Within sports, there’s only been one Dr. J, Joe Montana, Muhammad Ali, Jack Nicholas, Michael Jordan, Barry Sanders, Babe Ruth, etc. I agree about winning not being the only thing, but Elvis is hardly the only “one,” even in music. Ever hear of Chuck Berry, James Brown, Frank Sinatra, Prince, etc.?
At least one can say that a super bowl player is working in an area for which he has training, talent, and ability. When the kickoff comes, every player knows his marks.
When Elvis just performed on stage and sang in the early years he was one of the best. But when the ‘money grubbers’ put him in the ‘uniform’ of an actor without any preparation at all, he was forced to play ‘out of his league,’ and it showed.
However, many of those cast with him have said he knew what he didn’t know and tried hard to get it right. Seems they treated him much better than his ‘managers.’
The end result depends on the kind of person who has most influence in your early life. Super bowl players and other world class athletes have people dedicated to seeing they are at their best. Elvis just wasn’t that lucky.
I’ve always wanted to go to one of those places where you can make your own bumper stickers and cruise Graceland with one that reads “Elvis is dead. LET HIM ROT!” just to see what happens.

53 players win a supper bowl every year. And I couldn’t name one of them. (Atleast the supper bowl is somewhat useful.)

Professional biking is far tougher anyway.

You want to compare one individual to the two teams playing the Super Bowl, at least do it with a athlete. The prime example the Muhammad Ali.

But the winners of bike races, and swim meets, and triathlons are important… to each their own…
