I’ve been trying to memorize crepuscular, which had EXACTLY that spot in my brain. But I remembered it after only a few seconds of eye-scrunching. Whoopee. Maybe I’ll still have it tomorrow. I can hope!

I’d say the dog has priority. Dogs are desperate to go out for a reason.

The word you have forgotten is “analemma.” It’s also the sign for infinity, which is how long you’ll be sitting there if there’s a cat on your lap. The dog will have to find another walker. You will starve to death in that chair.

I’d say dilemma is the word. Analemma is the path the sun takes through the sky over the course of a year if you look at it for only one specific time of day.

funny about kids’ memories. They can remember every single stumble one makes in the classroom but can’t remember to do their homework. Selective just doesn’t cover it.

I agree with the suggestion “dilemma”. None of the others are third grade vocabulary words.

If you can’t think of a word say “I forgot the English word for it.” That way people will think you’re bilingual instead of an idiot.

Animal dilemma. This one requires two words.

I would guess the word is dilemma – which does lead to a thought. The general definition at least implies a difficult choice between 2 things. (strictest definition probably doesn’t include that) Should there be a word if you are deciding between more than two things? Like a trilemma? Or an np-lemma?

This has been a very entertaining, not to mention educational, conversation this morning! …. all coming from the word “crepuscular”, which has nothing at all to do with Mallett’s original strip. Love it!!

To avoid confusion with a word that sounds like “animals,” she could explain Sophie’s Choice. Oh, wait, nevermind.

I now understand the meaning of “analemma,” but not how it relates to the situation described in panel 1.
