Kid is wise beyond his years. If he starts a small savings account now and keeps it going, he might just be able to do it. Of course, there will be a few minor hitches along the way. Depressions, taxes, wars, pandemics, global weather changes, and like that. But he might do it.

Just know before you go: to a retirement planning presentation. They scare the willys out of you with projected medical costs, then they pitch investments that will take you thru the end of your days.

These days you need to have a college fund for your kids, retirement fund, and a fund to care for your boomer parents who didn’t save 2 cents for retirement. Caring for my parents set my likely retirement back 5-7 years….which I wouldn’t resent if they hadn’t retired early.

I’ve largely come to the conclusion that when it comes to family and relationship – keeping score is probably not that healthy. Keeping track may be to make sure things are cared for and get done – but it isn’t the same thing.

National Health Service does work. Price for ER visit (with doctor) : 25 €, 52€ if you don’t have any coverage (foreigners), 10€ if you are registered on the social service.
