Saw my grandpa do that once. I never tried, looked a little tricky, and I don’t carry a hanky.

I worked outside for part of my career. Around here, they call it a “farmers snot rag”. It is very slightly tricky, but when you gotta blow, you gotta blow, right?

It’s not that cold around here, so no chance of getting a frozen booger. Which might be neater…

Why are they poking fun of people who do this, insinuating that they have less brains than those who don’t?

Sure, and they unjustly blame the farmers for the Daylight Savings time change, as though it matters what the clock says when you have to feed the animals or plow a field.

Don’t remember the movie [maybe ‘Ma and Pa Kettle’] but there was a scene where a kid’ nose was running and he wiped with his hand. Mother said, Don’t do that with yer hand! What’cha gotta sleeve fer? Brought down the house.

Runners know this maneuver as well.

We call it ‘blowing a snot rocket.’

Another regional term I’ve never heard of.

My mother told me her brothers did that. But then, they were farmers… during the Dust Bowl.

My ex tried to get me to do that once on a hike. Although he gave the argument his best, I am happy to say he did not get his way. I did, however, use up quite a few leaves that day.
