All of the tributes have been great. I remember all the strips honoring Schulz after he died. One, just one panel, showing Charlie Brown sitting on the curb where he and Linus often sat. And Charlie Brown just had his head down and was crying. Made me cry a bit too.
I didn’t realize today would have been Charles Schulz’s 100th birthday. That explains the Charlie Brown reference in “Pearls Before Swine” as well as this.
Shakespeare might have been thinking of Charles “Sparky” Schulz when he wrote, “His life was gentle; and the elements / So mixed in him, that Nature might stand up / And say to all the world, THIS WAS A MAN!”
I think this is the fourth time that “Peanuts” has been referenced in this strip, the first time where Garfield saw Snoopy in the mirror instead of his reflection, the second time where Garfield was stuck up a tree and ended up getting Charlie’s Brown kite tangled around him, and the third time where Garfield was sleeping on top of Snoopy’s doghouse. Still, happy birthday to Sparky himself.
Wonderful, truly wonderful. My favorite comic when I was 5 and my favorite now. (Peanuts I mean, Wallace the Brave is number 2 and Garf is number three)
