I had a poodle that could hear you peeling a banana. No matter where she was in the house, she’d come running for a bite or two as soon as you cracked the peeling.
My mother thought one of her old dogs (long gone now) was deaf. I noticed the “deaf” dog had an uncanny way of hearing the refrigerator open. Her hearing may not have been what it used to be, but she was more of selective hearing, than actually deaf. :)
We used to have cats who would be in deep slumber in my parents’ bed, but the moment my father opened a tuna can, they would be dashing into the kitchen for some tuna.
“Yeah, you heard chewing! But you’re not getting any, you fat feline!” (Garfield then shows his claws…only to discover that Jon has been busy with a set of nail clippers…!)

Even if you put earmuffs on Garfield while he’s asleep and you try to eat, it still wouldn’t make any difference, he’d still hear it.

Well, cats do have what is overall the keenest hearing of any mammal, which is a major factor in their survival.

He can hear flour being sifted. If it’s food, he’ll be there.
