Several years ago, a photographer set up a camera that allowed monkeys to trigger the shutter. He claimed he was the copyright holder of the resulting “monkey selfie” images. PETA claimed the monkeys who actually took the pictures were the copyright holders.
Other countries have granted legal personhood to rivers or environmentally sensitive areas. This allows lawyers to be able to represent or advocate for the protected entity in court.
