Here’s the classic comics update for the 2nd:
The conductor continues to cobble together a case for the cops who’ve come to check out Skeezix for the rash of conflagrations in the community… being crooked. The detectives question Skeezix, with no adult present, and I object to them leading the witness.
While Doc lays in a snowbank miles away from town, Old Reliable is getting restless. He was just about to die one winter, when there was a killin’ frost.
Oh yeah, in all the excitement with Queen Vall, Brenda totally forgot about her fiance being shot on what was to be their wedding day two months ago. Maybe this is a chance to look in on his recovery at the hospital? Better than sending a card, I imagine.
Walt finds little paw prints in the snow, only they lead into a dilapidated factory. There goes Rufus, in after Kitty… it would serve him right if the place makes extremely rickety bridges.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I doubt Joel knows the Bible well enough to unthinkingly quote it in conversation like this. (“Pestilence that stalks the noonday.”)
I’m with Joel, so I’m trying to change the things I can change. Yesterday I spent the day rewiring my neighbors trailer, then we drank a bunch of beer and ordered Mexican food. It was a great day, never once read the news.

I’ve never seen Joel this sick. Get well, buddy, Ruufy needs you and besides, Pipe Tobacco will be simply devastated if you go and die on us.

Today’s punchline would have been a lot funnier if it hadn’t been an ancient chestnut.

Hope Rufus Smith – or is it Joel Smith? – isn’t getting old age health issues like Walt may have.

I used that same line on my dad in 1959. Didn’t change anything then, either……
