When I was growing up, my early-grade teachers taught because couldn’t find a man to marry. With one exception, all the women were elderly and “single.”
The vast majority of teachers learn early on to live simple and mildly frugal lifestyles in line with their low professional wages. They also learn to invest the little extra they get out of each paycheck in growing wealth towards retirement. Their accumulated wealth by that time is rather impressive compared to most other professions. This proves the adage that the goal of an education is the continuance of learning throughout life. Because of my investments I actually enjoy luxuries and travels that I could not afford when still a teacher.

Mike should realize that some teachers love their job no matter how much money they make. That’s the mark of a true educator.
