Acknowledging the Vikings as THE Explorers would have been a better choice.

That visit resulted in a reduction in the native population by several means. Some were natural, as in the transmittal of European diseases that devastated whole tribes. Then there was that other natural decimation, as promoted by 15th century European man’s tendency toward conquest instead of diplomacy. Of course, neither ended with the century.

He stopped at the West Indies, gave the residents of the islands Smallpox, stole all their goods, his crew raped the women and killed the males then went back to Queen Isabella (an instigator of the Spanish Inquisition where many people died in the name of “religion”) . Then he came back and started all over again. Nice guy that Cristobal. BTW, the Vikings got to North America around 500 years before that clown when they landed at L’Anse Aux Meadows, Newfoundland.

I have a relative that went into Canada about seventeen years back, in a new VW (I know, why would he buy one?) they came from Missouri to our state, via Canada, and they had an entire trunk full of ammo, just for target shooting. They weren’t even detained? I couldn’t believe it.
