Granpas are wunnerfull!!! Mine was my father’s dad, so when his son & granddaughter locked horns in those tumultuous teen years, he was there to be dad to both of us, completely understanding where each of us was coming from.
Heirloom tomatoes are a waste of space. Modern varieties also taste great if you let them ripen (and why else grow your own?), are much more productive and disease resistant.
I’m still trying to figure out how you kill off tomatoes. Once the plants got big enough to put the frame around them (so about 1.5 feet tall), the only things that could get them would be a critter chewing off the stem or a freak wind event that toppled them breaking the stem. Unless the fictional Philly is having a massive drought, but watering a garden doesn’t take more than 10 minutes.
