Cats… and many other lab animals… were often the test subjects given LSD and other psychoactives in 1960s experiments to study those substances as possible agents in chemical warfare.

The specific coloring of Cybil being a flame point siamese make me wonder if she is modeled after a real cat in Mark’s life.
