Like the curio shop that hung his sign upside down. Passersby used to come in to tell him some prankster flipped his sign. Sales went up with the foot traffic.
I tried using an AI tool to write a cover letter. It did an amazingly good job.
Then I had to edit it to remove the buzz words and what I consider business world clichés and then make it look like my style of writing which is more terse.
Duh? Help, I flat out don’t get it??? OH da m n! The devil is in the details, got it, son of a g u n, that is very sneaky and underhanded and very funny, after I got it…
As a proofreader, in that situation, I might have offered the same suggestion — or I would have advised them to hire a proofreader.
As for the weisenheimers with all the jokes built around the issue of how you look up a word if you can’t already spell it, a dictionary is a tool. We still need teachers and parents to teach us and explain things.
(Sorry, I’m a little touchy when it comes to dictionaries — I like them. I bought my first one from the school book club (Arrow? Scholastic?) when I was ten years old, and although these days I tend to look up spelling questions on line, I still have to have one on my bookshelf.)
