I’m not surprised that they showed Gunther and Rosa.

Do Rosa’s proportions look seriously strange in this one, or is it just me? (Fairly sure it’s not just me… she’s 4 heads tall. Most people are closer to 6 heads tall)

Awwww, Gunther :] I’m really glad he found someone who appreciates him for everything he is! Luann I believe is too back and forth with Gunther. One day she’ll really like him and go on dates with him, the next she’ll hardly give him the time of day (especially when another guy is around) Gunther could use a nice stable girl!

This is nice! And I think it puts an end to the Luann & Gunther pairings.

Gunther was the best thing to ever happen to Luann but she is too shallow to appreciate and see it. Rosa is a lucky girl.

Maybe Gunther surprised Rosa with the flowers after they finished eating in the cafeteria….thus the crumbs….or…the flowers are shedding pollen. If so…perhaps Tiffany will develop a serious rash from her latent allergies and Luann will be able to go to the prom after all with Quill.

IMHO, Mark drew the last frame of Gunther and Rosa larger to symbolize the spotlight is now on them and the fact he has invited Rosa to the prom….kind of a ‘under a magnifying glass’ effect. hat’s why their bodies seem out of proportion to reality.

I suspect Rosa will be Queen of the Prom, much like she won Tiff’s beauty pageant. Oh well, Rosa seems like worthy competition for Tiffany, though I will be hoping that Tiffany is selected as she deserves to be:) Still, who would she go with…? No one in the existing cast that might be available seems worthy of her. Well maybe Ox, I think he’s a little bit of a bully himself but he generally means well…

It’s gonna be a banner day when Gunther finally undoes that top button.

More wrapping up of long running story lines. This shows Gunther is really over Luann and has moved on. I wonder if Luann will be going to college next year or the year after? The way things are wrapping up it just might be next year.

The last panel with Rosa caught my attention also. I think part of the illusion is the thin band of orange for the dress and the long sweater but still she seems out of proportion.

Just wish we had a “Like” or “Thumbs Up” button for the strip.

Gunther and Rosa do look a bit funky today, but at least it doesn’t take away from the cute, so it’s forgivable.

Forget apparent distorted proportions. Think logistics. How did Gunther get that bouquet to school intact and presentable, and what is Rosa going to do with it during the long school day?

… and the nightmares just keep on piling up, one on top of another…

Apparently there are only about 20 students in this school. These 3 can be so boring. So pessimistic. Really, this gets old after a while.

I said the same thing… maybe the ants were a “parade” for Rosa…. ha ha!

Gunther is so sweet. He’s the boy we never appreciate until we see him at our 10 year reunion. So glad he found someone who does appreciate him now.

Oh, and there are only 8 people on their class? She should have said, “Isn’t anyone we know romantic?”

Another possiblility on why the drawing may seem odd to some:===Perhaps it does to some, because in the first two panels, to compare what happens with a TV camera, the perspective is more like a tight shot, an above-the-waist close up on Bern, Lu and Delly, but the shot with Gunth and Rosa is drawn back to a full body perspective, as if we are not in the conversation with Rosa and Gunth, but are able to view from a distance, where with the “Tres Amigas”, we’re allowed to be “in” on their convo….-

So, in the end, since panel three shows the floor, and the first two don’t, it sort of gives the feel that one is higher up than the others, and makes it stand out, and gives a feel of “weird proportions” …..

Surprising that all three of them blanked completely about Gunther and Rosa’s romance.

It’s her open mouth and “big hair” that is doing it. The bridge of the nose is the center of the face/head. For an additional reference, the horizontal center line also goes through the bottom of the eyes, which is how Greg drew it.If you take that in account, the top of her head is about in line with the forward most point of her hair. (We can’t get any more exact than that. It’s a cartoon, remember?) All the head above that is “big hair”.

And if you take that new head height and measure the rest of her body, she magically becomes “five heads high”.

Hopefully at least that would be soon (poor Brad). Rosa will do more to help it get there than Toni.

Why? She gets the best grades doesn’t she? I hope you aren’t suggesting anything based on race.

Lev, get this straight: Luann NEVER liked Gunther, at least not enough to be involved with him romantically. Being friends is the most they’ll ever be, but they’ll never—and I repeat, never—be anything more than that.

Hey! Rosa for Prom Queen!

Not a complaint, just an observation: Gunther seems to have gone from ‘too afraid to hold hands’ to ‘make a public show of romance with flowers at school’ off screen, and I would have liked to see the transition and growth involved. But this way is more of a delightful surprise, I will admit:)

I think prom queen is voted on by the students. It doesn’t matter how much of a stunner Crystal pulls, a lot of the students will only see her as the scary goth chick.

After Quill dumps her and Rosa heads off to Europe, Gunther and Luann run into each other at WW. They console each other and Luann comes to realize it has been Gunth all along, she just never realized it. From that point on, Luann is all over Gunth.

They might console each other with a one night stand, but they will never be well suited for each other as any more than friends.

This is the guy Gunther has always wanted to be. It’s wonderful that he has found a girl who wants that guy.

I know this is a serialized strip—in fact, that’s why I like it. But why does everyone analyze it so much, delving into the distant plot points of yore and explaining away all the “logic” of silly and light-hearted comments…it’s as much fun as looking at the comments on the “Bloom County” page and ALWAYS noticing somebody needlessly explaining to someone else that the strip is decades old.

I think Crystal is lovely. I’m a fan of the goth look most of the time. I just think it is giving the high school students too much credit to think they would vote for her. I’ve been wrong about this before (Rosa and the beauty pageant) but I think the winner of this shallow contest will be the shallow Tiffany.

Lev – an “off topic” question, if you will. How do you format your replies such that you get visible “line feeds” in your text? Is there a special character you use? Or a specific text editor? Everything I try to do seems to get squashed. Line Feed or “New Line” characters seem to get scrunched. -BTW, WAY TO GO GUNTH! I’m proud of ya, man! But I also recall that Rosa may go “Ivy League” as well. In that case, I hope you get the right financial aid to qo wherever she does. I know you’re smart enough for it.

Somehow, Luann overlooked the sensitive and gentle side of Gunther. I think she goes for the good looks of Quill. If I were to rate trust and faithfulness on a scale of 1 to 10, I will give Gunther a 9.9, and Quill, well, maybe a passing grade. Anybody care to rate?
