Dad: "Happy engagement-versary!"
Mom: "I can't believe it's been a year"
Brad: "Long time"
Toni: "My parents were engaged for three"
Mom: "Why rush, right?"
Dad: "Although, what are we waiting for?"
Brad: "I dunno, fear of....?"
Toni: "Planning"
Reminds me of a âHeadlineâ that Jay Leno once read off. It went similar to this:âOur cityâs plan to plan itâs next plan is going well⊠itâs the plan of the planning committee to plan the next plan at our next planning sessionâŠ.â â Hopefully B&T donât bring up the argument that Rome wasnât built in an hourâŠ.. Cuz⊠it wasnât⊠it was about mmm⊠2 1/2 hours.âŠ
Mine was seven months⊠I had married her to the year, almost, that weâd met. I knew a month after (we met in September), but waited until January so that my heart and head could plan everything out. She knew the first night after we met (And Iâm not joking! Those were her words!)âŠ
I met my hub at a Parents Without Partners meetingâŠwhen he asked me to dance, I felt like we were two pieces of a puzzle being connectedâŠand, he was so comfortable to slow dance with! That was in the second week of June. Two months after that we got engaged (no-one was surprised), and got married the end of November of that same yearâŠand have been together ever since⊠;)
As Samuel Pepys once wrote, âI stayed up till the bell-man came by with his bell just under my window as I was writing of this very line, and cried, âPast one of the clock, and a cold, frosty, windy morning.ââ (16 Jan. 1659-60)âŠââAnd so to bed.ââ (30 April 1660)⊠âNite all! ;)
as I was guessing, (but maybe a lil sooner than I thought, was thinking 2 or 3 more years)âŠâŠâŠ they going to make Luann graduate, jump up 2 or 3 years by July or august, than have a more variety of themes for the stripâŠâŠâŠâŠ. College Luann(maybe Quill and Luann becoming the new Brad and Toni), we still have Frank and wife, but now we got the young marriage of Toni and Brad, and they get custody of Shannon, and she gets aged to being 10 or 11 thus becoming the âkidâ in the last years of Elementary in storylines
But it does occur to me that it might take that many years for Brad & Toni to finally tie the know (in real time) â in Greg Evans time, that could be what â 5 weeks?
I am currently suffering through the same delimma. Though it has not been a year yet. I am sure I will come to regret my procrastination at some point.
I am a little surprised that the bulk of the badgering is coming from Frank. But I am more struck by Toniâs submissive body-posture in panel 2. What she seems to be most intimidated by at this moment is future mom-and-dad-in-lawâŠ.
A recent study shows that the average cost of a wedding in America is almost $30,000.You should save if for something even more ridiculous, the divorce.
Toniâs parents mightâve waited that long because they didnât want to marry till they graduated from college. No reason to assume thatâs why Toni is weird; Toni is weird because of bad writing. And Brad is just as weird for the same reason.
This strip has always been about opposites. Toni and Brad are opposites, and what one wants the other doesnât. I think the Toni and Brad engagement will run about three years. It will take them about that long to figure out how to compromise or not.
-I also miss âHeadlinesâ, but I miss âJaywalkingâ a lot. Wish Jimmy would go out and do some âman in the streetâ interviews. They can be hilariousâŠ.
-Proceed with Caution !-Itâs been my experience over 60-some years that action with no planning first can be a lot more destructive than action after planning, but maybe thatâs just my personal biasâŠ
-I think Jimmy feels (and definitely NBC feels) that Jayâs comedy bits are dated. Jimmyâs stuff with hashtags is cute. But Iâll always love those âman in the streetâ interviews from JaywalkingâŠ
Two problems with planning:1) It takes the engagement out of the fantasy realm and drags it into the dirt of reality2) It will mean having, and resolving, conflict.*Why plan, when they can just pretend?
Itâs good for them to keep putting off the wedding, until they finally realize that they really shouldnât be married to each other. Toni just wants a baby (as she realized when she saw Dirkâs), and Brad just wants finally to feel like a responsible adult after all these years of schlub-hood. . There are better ways of achieving those goals than entering into a poorly matched marriage.
On the big Wedding Dayâ Frank will say to Brad; âWell, son, are you going to be a man and get her tonight, or are you going to be a mouse and do it tomorrow?â Brad will say; âGee dad, I guess Iâm a rat. I did it last night!â
I suppose some amateur psychoanalyst could draw subtle suggestions from the last panel. If someone wanted to theorize about the connotations of the words, âfear of,â they easily could hypothesize that there is a sexual malfunction between Brad & Toni which might delay marriageâŠ
ââŠbecause 2-3 people start having an off-topic discussion with each otherâŠâ^Donât forget to add yourself. File under âPixarâ and âOx: Dumb, or Dummber (spelling intentional)â, which you have participated inâŠ.
Other âalso-ransâ include âDick Tracyâ, âCitizen Dogâ, sometimes âNancyâ, and a couple of others. But, again, nothing comes close to here in volumeâŠ. credit the nature of this strip, and us âLuannalyzersââŠ.
Considering that this is the second (technically third, if you count his not being able to take over âTonightâ sooner) time that NBC has burned Jay, they donât deserve any of his gems, even though Jimmy is very talented. Jay has it so that if he chose to return to the talk circuit, or host or do some comedy specials or a new series, he can âpick and chooseâ at this point, and should probably be in no rush, as he made his mark. CBS forgot a demographic when they went south, ABC is doing the same thing (except they have the Mouse to keep them afloat) and when they feel the hurt enough, theyâll return to try to recapture the demo that they missed. But at that point, will it be too late?

On more of a basic (crude) level, one could tell Brad & Toni to get married at a county courthouse, before quickly going to a sleazy motel.
