I think it’s a mistake for Greg to drag every single story segment out for six days’ worth of strips. Next week, I assume, will be devoted to the actual dinner party for Gunther’s mom. Meanwhile, several other storylines will have to be put on the backburner for yet another week.

Among the things we didn’t learn this week, while we spent all week learning about the characters’ voting habits:1. Why is Bernice’s roommate Dez only sneaking into and out of the dorm late at night, without ever attempting to meet Bernice?2. What’s in the bags that Viper brings for Dez and the packages that Piro has Bernice store for him? Is it drugs?3. Will Bernice get a backbone and refuse to let Dez’s friends treat her as their errand girl?4. Why didn’t Rosa and Gunther find out what Uncle Leo did before moving to Peru to work in his clinic?5. Why did Uncle Leo think that data entry and answering phone calls at his clinic was a good thing for Rosa to do instead of going to college?6. What’s the “Plan D” that Gunther had in mind for what he and Rosa should do in Peru?7. Has Tiffany attempted to make any friends at Moony U. whose attitudes are compatible with her own, as opposed to attempting to hang out with the weird friends of Bernice’s roommate?8. Are Knute, Crystal, and Ox in college, and if so, where, and if not, what are they doing?9. How is Luann doing academically? Has she written any papers, taken any tests or quizzes, done any problem sets, or anything else that would have indicated to her that college tends to be more difficult academically than high school? She wasn’t that great a student in high school, so I was expecting some kind of academic culture shock for her — but the only time we saw her in class, all the instructor did was take attendance and tell the students to buy the textbook.10. Has Luann met any of her fellow students?11. What is the name of the college Luann attends?

Well, I am just about ready to trash this stupid computer! It has been either slower than molasses in (USA) January, or it locks up! ;P Besides, it is cold down here once again (we have our thermostat set to 62 degrees at night and I am Feeding the difference)! Sometimes I envy dogs their nice warm coats (except when it is in the hot part of summer!). At any rate, I think IS Katie and I will schlep upstairs for warmer air! If anyone has a hammer can you lend it to me so I can mash this stupid computer LOL! ’Nite all! ;)-————————————————————" Rara temporum felicitate ubi centire quae velis et quae sentias dicere licet" These times having the rare good fortune that you may think what you like and say what you think." After each election, the AEC (Australian Election Commission) will send a letter to all apparent non-voters requesting that they either provide a valid and sufficient reason for failing to vote or pay a $20 penalty.

If, within the time period specified on the notice, you fail to reply, cannot provide a valid and sufficient reason or decline to pay the $20 penalty, then the matter may be referred to a court. If the matter is dealt with in court and you are found guilty, you may be fined up to $170 plus court costs and a criminal conviction may be recorded against you.http://www.aec.gov.au/FAQs/Voting_Australia.htmSee also:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_system_of_Australia#Voting_system

I always say if you don’t vote you don’t count. Granted it’s best to have an informed voter rather than just blindly voting not knowing the issues or candidates. While voting shouldn’t be compulsory every effort should be made to make sure people who want to vote can do so without any delays or interference. It’s a sacred right that shouldn’t be taken for granted.

I feel the same way too. It doesn’t help that the Supremes ruled that corps. are people too. Even Mitt Romney said the same thing. It doesn’t help that we don’t demand real debates from our politicians’, not these q& a’s that we have now. We have to cut back on these annual election seasons. Crystal next to Ox makes a heck of a lot more sense than Crystal next to Knute."*Levi et al. – I think this is a Gunther party— so only his friends were invited. I don’t remember Tiff speaking to the G-man, though I could be wrong.*And Crystal & Knute do have a lot in common— it’s just not apparent. They are both in teen rebellion, showing “The System/Man” that neither is following orders. Both seem to be hiding their intelligence, Crystal with an attitude and Knute with his humor.*And their names both begin with the hard “C” sound— that can be important to teens.

so you get convicted if you don’t pay your fine for not voting, and then the next election comes up, and then you have to vote, but you can’t vote because you’re convicted but you have to vote but you can’t so you don’t, so you have to pay the fine for not voting but you refuse to pay the fine because you wanted to vote but they wouldn’t let you so now you’re convicted….

I’m all for a “compulsory voting” system but I think it should go hand in hand with a box on the ballot for “None of the above.” Heck, the way the nitwits in congress are acting these days “None of the above” would get the most votes. ;)

Of course, Knute did register, so now he is eligible to serve on a jury as well as to pick the government. That’s good incentive not to leave your house, if you live in Pitt.

I’m not quite sure how it works. My wife and I are both registered to vote (and do vote), and we both have driver’s licenses. That is where the similarity ends. I have been called for jury duty every 18 months like clockwork for the last 28 years. My last jury duty was just October 14th of last month. She has been called for jury duty once in 22 years. If she get called in, she gets her full pay for the duration as she works for the State/Department of Corrections.

You can stop right there. :-)

If she’s working for the CDC, then I’m amazed she’s ever been called at all, as no defense lawyer would ever select her. Maybe the jury office knows this, and automatically exempts her. Sometimes, she might slip through the cracks, though.

Anyone who works in any kind of “law enforcement” or “emergency services” capacity (fire, EMS, medical, dental, hospital) will more than likely get dumped by the defense on voire/dire. This, because it is felt that such folks would be more sympathetic to the victims of crime (working with crime victims day-to-day) than the “offenders.” It used to be that most of these folks were automatically exempt from even being summoned for jury duty, but no longer, due to the dwindling pools of qualified juror candidates. I’ve seen active LEOs called in to voire/dire. Of course, they never make it past “What is your present/former occupation?” :-)

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind doing my ‘civic duty,’ but it’s starting to reach the level of harassment to the point of when I go in, I feel like telling them, “Kill ’em all – Let God sort ’em out…”

That might work too…. ;-PPP but it also might get you in a bit of hot water with the judge…. 8-O In my neck of the woods, when one is summoned, it’s an “on call” procedure. For one week, you are “on call,” and have to check the pre-recorded message every evening to see if you must report the next day for voire/dire. If you’re not called by wed. evening, you most likely won’t be called, as new trials don’t begin that late in the week. If you are “on call,” but don’t have to report, you are exempt from being summoned again for 1 year. If you are called in and get as far as being in a court room for voire/dire, or actually being “impaneled,” you are exempt for 3 years. In some other nearby counties, it’s “One Day, One trial.” I like that better, but we don’t have enough of a candidate pool for that.

Somebody asked: “Does it really matter whose kitchen it is? Lots would go on between scenes much less a day for us isn’t for them.” ^Well, to answer: It seemed to matter to somebody . And so they asked/commented. In responding, it does seem like something to “entertain”… – In fact, if you look at it, it went from Mrs. B’s house, to a kitchen, to a quick thought about Knute &Co., then “boom!” they seemed to have “stepped out of a thought cloud”, into the kitchen, and we still don’t know whose kitchen, as each of those people are now all gathered together, in what seems the moments before the party begins… Why else would ones gather round and be in the kitchen/living/dining rooms as Quill prepares the spaghetti? Therefore, it would seem like a “good question”, as it suddenly had shifted to being the “pre-gathering” gathering of people… It seems also rather “odd” (only relatively speaking), almost like how some dreams just randomly shift from one scene to the next… somebody better check to see if Lu’s still in bed, with Puddles iat her feet…– BTW, Though I too can see how things go on “in between panels” and also feel that many events shouldn’t be taken so literally (as some may do) or with strict linear view, I have to say, once in a while, it is just sort of nice to “kick back” and “whimsically analyze” such things… just for balance and refreshment’s sake…– Plus, did you know that sometimes (though not always), in doing so, it just may help some to see some of the things that are similar to what some were trying to get at with “Luanniverse Time/Space”?

It’s probably too late to add this comment to the discussion about voting, but I thought I’d throw it in,anyway. -A number of people have posted about their belief that individual votes don’t matter much, so if uninformed voters don’t go to the polls, it doesn’t mean a thing. Well, here in Central Florida, we still have a tie vote for a city council position in the town of Mount Dora.-For those who figure that local elections are not very meaningful, it’s local officials who can make some major decisions that affect your every day life. No, they don’t get to decide if the country goes to war, but they can decide if a big shopping center gets built right next to your house, if there will be a park for kids to play in (or if it costs too much, so they won’t buy the land), if a road will be widened or not and so on.-Absentee ballots from soldiers who are serving overseas were counted, at least from those that did vote, and the tie still holds. The votes have been hand counted twice and there has been a lot of oversight, so no shenanigans. It’s a genuine tie.-There is no guidance from state law on how to resolve this. So the remaining city council members are going to have to decide. There’s been some discussion about flipping a coin, but it may come to picking a name from a hat….

I think Evans needs to end this arc as he just bastardized Australian Voting rules. You are NOT deemed a criminal if you do not pay the fine… it is up to the Magistrates to determine what action will be taken. Besides who really gives a flying fart about the voting requirements of other countries? Evans has been on this bitch session since his party lost control and now all he can do is complain about the voter turnout and use LuAnn as an example because in his comic world she didn’t vote?!?! On the verge of not reading this comic anymore as its starting to annoy.
