My recollection is that the Sunday panels are separated from the weekday storylines because some newspapers only run Luann on Sunday. Are the readers of those papers going to wonder who this new character is?
And for my part, I, of course, am tickled by the great word play going on! The ‘Photosynthesis’: “Put together and making, from light” vs. ‘Synthesized Photos’: The “Making (zany) light of something, previously put together”? Wonderful juxtaposition!
-
And Either way, something either “Gets ‘planted’ from the light” (absorbing carbon in the ‘carbon cycle’), or “Gets planted in delight” (Pic effects in Snapchat)! Oh, cracking good!
A little word play…….clever. In the meantime, the strip is lacking direction …….. no mystery, no romance, nothing to look forward to like the adventure in Peru.
Here’s something that I found interesting in the “Meet The Gang” article (your results may vary, LOL):
“When Greg and Karen write the script for the strip, they use the first letter of the character’s first name to indicate who’s speaking. When naming a new character, the aim is to use letters that aren’t already in use just to avoid confusion.
The intent is good but the execution is spotty. There are many names with the same first letter: Les/Luann. Brad/Bernice. Piro/Pru. Jack/Jonah. Tara/Tiffany/Toni!
Going through the alphabet, it’s surprising how many letters are taken:
Luann and Tara on a Sunday (normally it would be Luann and Bernice); it suggests that Tara will become a fixture in Luann’s friend circle, maybe even her new best bud.

I love seeing Tara and Luann on Sunday; that means we will be seeing her a lot, and apparently the Bernice, Tara conflict is over.

Axel, Bernice, Crystal, Dez, Eiffel, Frank, Gunther, Hair, Jonah, Knute, Luann, Manazon, Nancy, Ox, Pru, Quill, Rosa, Shannon, Toni, Viper, Zebo.
Only i, u, w, x and y are available. So the next new character will be named Ignatz W. Yakov."
Me again: So, what about Ursula and Xavier? ;o)

I never knew there was a Sunday Luann till I came on to this site. We only have Luann on the weekdays.
