Easier to decorate one wall than a whole room. Lower budget and fewer but better furnishings. Of course, nothing will change one’s appearance and cameras can’t help much with that.
I was well ahead of the crowd. I was unemployed during the summer of 2019, so I set up my home office / studio then. The camera aims at the only neat and clean corner of the room. It looks very professional.

You haven’t learned how to use background filters, I assume.

During the Zoom months I tried to read the book titles behind all the PBS news commentators.

Some low-res art and a couple of throw pillows will do.

Never used Zoom. Probably never will. also do not care what I look like to anyone other than my wife. Retirement has it’s privilege’s.

I have 3 bookcases full of books that I’ve read, they would make a great background
Ive never done zoom or anything like it, can’t imagine I would
Too bad, I am awful proud of that collection of books

I’d prefer an app that allows me to project the other caller’s background as my own – they can feel as if I’m in the room with them…
