There’s an app for that?

So I guess walking the phone has now eclipsed walking the dog. Oh well. At least you don’t have to pick up poops.

Without leashes yer.

Is there a first aid site in view? All that eyes on-the-screen activity virtually guarantees a bump or two or a stumble.

I hope they are on leashes. And that they clean up after them.

Better than sitting inside without them.

Thirty years ago, when you saw a person talking loudly with no one there, you knew they’d flipped out. Now they look normal but maybe annoying.

There was a time… Hold that thought, I just got a call.

As opposed to walking their dogs?

I always walk with my phone in the morning. I wear a bright-yellow “construction vest.” It is not only visible, it has pockets where I have my mask, hand sanitizer, glasses, flashlight, paper towels (runny nose in cold weather), and phone. On the outside pocket (clear plastic) is a self-made ID card that has my wife’s contact information, doctor’s name, allergies (one), blood type, and medications.

The phone is an emergency piece of equipment. I also loaded an app designed for parents to track their kids. My wife is usually asleep when I go out to walk. This way, she can see where I am when she gets up. At age 74, she needs to track me so I don’t get lost.

She will usually “ping” me with an “I love you” message when she gets up. That tells me that she’s OK too.

I also get pinged when she leaves work and arrives at home. I often meet her at the door with a glass of wine.

We see more of that during the day. In the evening we see couples out for a walk :-)

If I’m walking alone, my phone’s probably playing an audiobook. If walking with my husband, I’m talking with him and the phone is often at home. I think having the phone provides a sense of security for a woman walking alone, but some folks just have to be talking to someone all the time.
