I’ve read about that from several sources (never trust just one, no matter what their political or social leaning) and I’d say “soon” is a gross exaggeration (never depend on comic strips for “hard news” either).
Don’t flatter yourself, guys. “All life on Earth” is a nasty exaggeration. I mean, granted, we’re probably hosed as a species, but life in general should pull through…
In fact, as pointed out above, another Yellowstone eruption is not going to end all life on earth. Maybe not even all of humanity. But the great wheat producing regions in the US and Canada would be heavily dusted with ash. And the sulfur dioxide released into the upper atmosphere would create a severe cooling lasting for a decade or so. Civilization would take a very big hit. Mad Max might look optimistic…
If it’s not already happening, then US society doesn’t care about it. Once it’s already happening, it’s too late to do anything, move on, next subject.
Hey, is that Lewis Black? Sounds like something he would worry about….I thought that was Bob next to him for a second, but Bob doesn’t drink Martinis. Could be Dabney Coleman’s cousin I guess. And trust me, we can definitely rule out Richard Nixon, eh? It’s never Richard Nixon…….See, cuz he’s dead…..
Finally – a natural disaster that will “end life as we know it on planet earth” that’s not caused or exacerbated by human-caused global warming! It’s a Republican dream come true!
I thought that it was all the fault of the Columbus and the white man? After all, we all know that if the white man hadn’t come to the western hemisphere the caldera would never dare explode and ruin the lives of the Native Americans.

Without the ability and means to complain there would be no news media. It lives on controversy.

And there is also one getting ready to blow “soon” under Naples. Houses are creeping up the sides of Mt. St. Helen’s, which is also getting antsy.
People seem to be determined to self-destruct.

Actually, the caldera is going to have to step up the pace to beat human activity to the job.
