But then you’d think it would be “whyfore art thou”.

The “whys and wherefores” of the English language can be tricky, but I think they are fun, and interesting.

That’s one of those things that has actually stuck with me in the 30+ years since high school.

Yep…wherefore doesn’t mean where. Wherefore means WHY!

Thirteen years dead, and Charles Schulz is STILL showing ‘em how it’s done! LOL

Pibgorn is running through the F.Scott Fitzgerald version of Romeo and Juliet. Here is his take on the balcony scene

I’d go punch Charlie Brown just for the heck of it.

And here I always though she was lamenting that he was a Romeo and an enemy and how things could have been so much different if he were not. After all, what’s in a name? But a FAMILY on the other hand, is harder to get away from.

I guess Romeo and Juliet relates to Shakesphere rather than Christmas and the Bible (if you count the birth of Jesus).

The interrogative form of “therefore” is “wherefore”, just as the interrogative form of “there” is “where”.

Never mind the why and wherefore. I think I’ll go listen to H.M.S. Pinafore.

In Shakespeare’s time it wasn’t subtle at all. Everybody knew what it meant. We don’t know now because the word fell out of use.

Shakespeare obviously didn’t lose sleep over what people in the 20th and 21st century would think, or how the language would change. He’d probably be amazed that his plays are still being produced at all.

Romie and Julie went to a fancy restaurant…but the romance fizzled. Julie ordered the most expensive item on the menu…and afterwards, Romie owed what Julie ’et…

I don’t care what it means. To me it means she’s wondering where he is. I’m stubborn that way.
