It must have been a good ruler, like the one that can fit in the binder with the holes in the side and the little metal line and stuff.

I’m guessing you’ll need to buy him a new ruler, Sally!

Aha, one should measure the size of the conflict area with a ruler! And improving the traffic control, much research is still needed.

If you don’t buy him a replacement ruler, he’s gonna slap you so hard, so fast, so many times, in so few seconds you’ll think you’re surrounded !

The logistics of a ruler being run over by a truck and yet the kid doing the measuring being unscathed…so she was in the middle of the street, and the truck didn’t brake, and she ran away while it crushed the ruler?

Sally, you should never play in the street. Or measure the street, for that matter.

Well, eventually you learn not to lend your things to people who won’t appreciate them and take care of them.

I hope that Sally’s parents will buy you a new ruler and take the cost out of her allowance, but at least you can learn from the experience.

It must be a mighty narrow street if it was practical to measure it with an elementary student’s ruler. I don’t think I ever saw one over twelve inches as a kid, and six was more common. And wouldn’t the dimensions of the street be easily available from the town’s public records?

For want of a ruler, a grade was lost. For want of a grade, a year was lost. For want of a year, an education was lost. For want of an education, a career was lost. Thus was Lex Luthor created… ㋛

For extra credit she could have just stepped it off then measured her shoe length and multiplied.

So Charlie Brown is 8 or so. I looked it up to be sure. There a strip in 1979 where he says he says he’s 8 and 1/2. Sally is his younger sister. The ruler was owned by a third grader. Either Sally the genius is a few grades ahead or Sparky wasn’t too dialed in on this arc. Or the third grader is invading Sally’s classroom in a desperate attempt to get his ruler back. Regardless the whole arc is funny!
