Over where I am (Bay Area), the sky has finally gotten back to it’s normal color, but there’s still an uncomfortable amount of ash on everything left outside. Scary times!
Forest fires are right up there with hurricanes and earthquakes when it comes to awful disasters. I feel fortunate that so far all three of them have passed us by, though our home has been within a few miles of a few fires over the decades. But just because I’ve been fine doesn’t mean that millions of critters have not suffered and died (including far too many humans).
We CAN do a little something about two of those three by helping fight climate change. Live thoughtfully!
I didn’t think it had gotten that bad in the Pacific Northwest too.
Even in California, where it’s dry enough that widespread fires are a reliable annual event, I had never seen the sky that red (nor even remotely close) until this year.
Forest fires serve an important role in nature – maybe even more so with global climate change. It serves to refresh the ecosystem, and allows it to adapt to new conditions. The harms caused by fire are still tragic.
If there’s a unicorn in every forest, then wouldn’t that mean that the unicorn population has been going down with the increase population of humans taking up space?
I like it when an artist can really touch people with a simple cartoon and just a few bubbles of dialogue. This is one of the most heartfelt strips I have seen.

Isn’t there a “fire extinguisher” kind of spell?

The Nostrilverse is free of the Covid Pandemic, and yet somehow the fire departments are still understaffed.

They live near California? How are they breathing? Why aren’t they packing their bags and leaving?

With all the wildfires out here, it would be be great if smoke killed the Covid 19 virus

while I love the escapism of comics, I’m kind of touched to see some references to things going on in the real world. Nicely done.

I’ve followed this strip for a while, and love it. The compassion of this piece is truly felt by the reader. Thank you for doing this.
