try this – at the moment when you realize you don’t know why, don’t move from that spot and look around – your brain told you to stop there and you will probably be able to see a clue – it works
Scientists say when you go through a door, your brain “resets” to whatever you normally do it that room. For instance, you keep your shopping list on the fridge. If you realize you are low on toilet paper, you head for the kitchen to write it down. BUT, you don’t use toilet paper in the kitchen, and your mind resets to food or dishes.
I love Mondays on GoComics. Most updates on Monday. Today, 396 updated, total comics 547. That’s 72.4%. My least favorite day is Sunday. Fewest updates. I don’t understand why the total of updates changes each day. Anybody know? — Donald

No best thing to do is go back where you were and then it will come back to you.

This could take awhile, maybe bring the bed into the kitchen.

I have a bad case of the “hereafter’s”. I go into a room and then say "what did I come in “here after”?

Funny thing is he came into the kitchen to get a chair.

This is the ‘doorway effect’. Psychologist have known about it since the late 1970s when I was in grad school.
Apparently, effect operates in virtual reality too. Heres’a link to a ‘Scientific American’ article about it.

In the kitchen? How about your phone or your keys? Maybe your billfold and credit card for whatever you ordered from Amazon?
