I’ve gotten a whole lot better at waiting, now that I’m retired. Though of course, I do always have a book. I recall being Nelson’s age, and in those days, waiting was a lot harder. Though having a book was very helpful.

Waiting patiently is an acquired talent. Now that I’ve acquired it I really need to get things done.

By the time Grandpa gets done waiting, he may be dead.

As my mother often said, “If it’s worth having, it’s worth waiting for”.

His grandson is basically saying he is bored. Give him something to occupy his time and he won’t mind waiting. If I were Earl, I would take him to the library and see if he can get signed up for any activities they offer, maybe get his grandson his own library card. Then a quick trip for a happy meal, then home.

Do it Earl, you can rest later! (they are only young for a very short time)!

Nelson’s response is that of a spoiled child, and using outside voice as well. Yes, he is bored, but he did ask politely – at first.

Oh, Nelson sounds so much like my oldest grandson, when he was that age. That’s exactly what he has said to me!

My Sicilian father-in-law born in 1914 said, “Weight is what broke the wagon down.” Anyway, kid get the old man one of those nearly free Medicare motorized wheelchairs and you ride for free.

Never EVER make a promise to a child unless you know you can keep it. If you break it it better be a good reason involved.

I liked drawing more than reading at that age though I did both with alacrity.
