That should work well until his truck meets a 65-year-old truck thief.

Stick shift doesn’t work well in bumper-to-bumper freeway-land. You’ll wear your leg out if you try to get anywhere during peak traffic times.

And if they do take it, you’ll have to get a new clutch when they are done with it.

That won’t work around here. 99% of the vehicles are still the geared ones.

My three girls were born in the 70’s. “Their” car was a stick shift and they all learned to drive it before their sixteenth birthday.

In 1974 I bought a stick to learn to drive. If you can drive a 3-speed without stalling, you can drive just about anything…

Speaking of stalling, everyone said that if you stalled during your driver’s license test, you’d automatically flunk. Well…I stalled on the Y-turn, calmly popped it out of gear, restarted, & finished the turn as it nothing had happened. The examiner was impressed & said so in so many words. Oh, and I passed.

I love having a manual…. but they are sadly so damned hard to find anymore in the US. My current vehicle (SUV) is 11 years old and it took me a helluva long time to locate a used one that had a manual transmission.

The report from U.S. News and World Report show only 18 percent of U.S. drivers know how to operate a stick shift.

    And we’re pretty old

‘Taint the stick. It’s that starter pedal on the floorboard that gets ’em every time.

In small town Texas, when I was a kid, that was normal.
