I still get a kick out of āentertainingā those unknown callers with a bit of my own humor, making them believe theyāve got āa live oneā on the line..
If you donāt recognize the number, donāt answer. Even if it looks like a local cell number. They are all spoofs. If they want to talk to you, they will leave a voice mail.
We have NoMoRoBo ā No More Robo. Comcast doesnāt charge for it, and even if they did, itās worth it. And, as others have said, if you donāt recognize the name or number, donāt answer. If I do answer, I just start speaking in Cherokee.
If you dont know the number, and you do answer , do NOT say Hello. They are not allowed to say anything till you say, Hello. Usually have to say it twice before they/it do/does start talking If you donāt say hello and is a legitimate call the other person will say hello.
When I am feeling my oats, Iāll answer with a made up language (like Latke Gravis in the series Taxi): āTrou shaad ya bene voush? Ah! Prekoye, deemaash?ā

Donāt answer if you donāt know the caller. If itās important, theyāll leave a message.

Pluggers are the only ones who fall for scams because they are the only ones who pick up their phones when it rings.

Perhaps thatās why telemarketers are more abundant than ever: No one can slam the phone down on them anymore.

But you can block the caller if thatās on your plan or in your phone. YMMV
