In sneakers? That’s a wonderful way to find that board with a bent nail.

I usually have to jump in my recycling bin. I could put it out every week and my trash every other week. Always have more recycling than trash.

It works well for my green waste. You’d be amazed how much tree branches can compact, especially if you cut them up pretty small when you put them into the bin.

If you put anything tightly in that narrow area by the wheels it won’t fall out and you will have to call the trash company, AGAIN

With my luck…….I would end up on the ground with the trash ‘all over the place’ and the wife wanting to take me to the ER ! ! ! !

We put up a fence. The steel post were driven by a large steel pipe with one end welded shut. Markings on the pipe said Korea. The fence project was done long ago but we use the pipe to compress trash and yard waste into the bins. Wife deemed the pipe as “The Korean Persuader”.

My father broke some ribs at the age of about 80 by falling out of a tree he had climbed, ostensibly to work on a device he had designed to help compact large amounts to trash.

Or so he claimed. I think he was just climbing the tree for reasons of being awesome, and who’s going to tell you no if you’re 80?

I stopped stomping the trash down the day a mouse crawled up my leg while I was stomping. Some time around 1960.

No need to do this at our house. With only the two of us, we usually only generate 2 Tall Kitchen Trash Bags worth a week and a bag of grass clippings and have a 90 gallon dumpster.

Check out “Garbology: Our Dirty Love Affair with Trash” by Edward Humes. The average American produces 102 tons of trash in their lifetime. And, it doesn’t ever go away. It either piles up and gets compacted in landfills - eventually becoming a mound 500+ feet high covering 700 acre like Puente Hills Landfill, Los Angeles County, or it gets dumped into the ocean where the ‘floaters’ become part of an island and the rest ends up covering up the ocean floor. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP) is the largest of 5 offshore plastic accumulations. It is located halfway between CA and HA, covering an area about twice the size of Texas (about 620,000 square miles). These islands are comprised mainly of plastic (whatever floats) and once in the island the plastic stays there until it breaks down into micro-plastic particles. Those don’t go away-they get eaten / inhaled /absorbed by sea creatures and enter our food chain.
