I’ll be polite and say that I’m sorry however I really don’t want something in my house monitoring everything that goes on, especially in regards to Alex’s “sidewalk” feature. Most folks don’t realize what it is or that it’s even already activated. That’s a security risk – it’s an open door you probably do not know about to some of your data. It can be turned on without you knowing it. While useful for somethings it’s potentially like leaving a first floor window wide open when you’re out of the house. That would cause me to use some rather impolite words.
Well, I’ve gotta say some of those gizmos are real lifesavers for many of older and disabled people. I transported a woman home from the hospital and she told me about having her heart attack. She lived alone in her house and couldn’t reach her landline phone. She called out “Help!” and her Iphone she had on but rarely used responded, “What can I help you with?” She had Siri call 9-1-1 and her life was saved.
I’m sure many, I know I did, made fun of the commercials that came out eons ago, “Help, I’ve fallen and can’t get up!” Well any sort of life guard monitoring systems can help with we by-God-stubborn Pluggers who can do everything ourselves!

I should try that with my parents’ Alexa the next time I go to my parents’ house.

I like doing that. I’m aware she doesn’t really care, but she doesn’t mind either, so it’s a win-win situation. :D

how can you be a plugger, with an alexa????
pheets over 3 years ago
It is a deeply ingrained habit of pluggers to say “thank you” and “please” at appropriate times. Without thinking about it.

I do, but that’s mainly in the hope of clemency during the robot uprising.

If Alexa is listening in all the time, what happens when the TV ad comes on saying “Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” ?
kathleenhicks62 over 3 years ago
But, can you still be classified “plugger” if you have “Alexa”?

Pluggers don’t have Alexa or Siri.

I select the UK-female voice option for my voice assistants. Yes, I do thank them for a job well done.
