If the pain you got from playing a game lasts longer than the pleasure you got while playing it, it just might be time to find a new hobby. Preferably one that doesn’t have the potential to disable you.
If cybernetic implants and ‘waldo’ add-ons were less expensive, we would see a lot of those in common use. Then the terms amateur and professional would blur out of the picture.
We do 18th century reenacting. I started out sitting on my rear end demonstrating embroidery (a personal love of mine since I was 4 years old). Three older ladies did the cooking demonstration – which also served as midday meal (ie. dinner in the period) for the members of the unit.
One day all three of the ladies were no longer coming to events. I was approached (only female on the Board) about taking over the cooking demo. I was honest and said I had never cooked over a fire before. I said I could guarantee a cooking demo, but not that it would be edible. I ended up doing the cooking demo for a decade plus, then a fellow joined who wanted to do so and I went back to sitting on my rear end and demonstrating embroidery for the past couple of decades.
The fellow left our unit and I am waiting for them to ask me to start cooking again. My answer will be that I will do the cooking – but I need someone to lift the large cast iron pots for me as at this age I cannot longer lift them – especially when filled with food.
I will miss sitting on my rear end and stitching if I am cooking again – I hope someone else volunteers to do so. I would rather fire the unit’s black powder cannon again than cook again.

I don’t call it getting old. I call it outliving the warranty.

As long as you’re out there—still in the game, do whatever works!

No games for me. Stairs are enough of a challenge for my knees.

Putting on all the gear is part of the exercise.

The ex-tennis players are always recognizable on the pickleball courts — by all of the knee braces they wear.

I spend more time gnawing off the shell and picking out the pieces of nut than swallowing the nut. It’s part of the experience.
