Krugman’s newsletter is always a good read* but sometimes the music reference at the end is really wonderful: You tube “Willie Nelson & SinĂ©ad O’Connor – Don’t Give Up”.

If you don’t know this, the doors on Musk’s cars are designed to open electronically; if they have manual releases at all, they’re difficult to get at and use. As a result, there have been multiple instances of people burning alive inside Teslas when the engines catch fire. Well, large parts of the U.S. economy and government appear to be on the verge of self-immolation. And given the combination of arrogance and ignorance shared by Musk and Trump, it’s hard to see how we get out.

True enough. Honesty is the Batman of our world these days and god knows Honesty needs to be the ever-lovin’ junk out of a LOT of people. And I mean a LOOOOOOOOOOOT of people.

How do we deal with authoritarians, fascists? We surely don’t do it by enabling this shameless liar, felon, rapist, purveyor of frauds, reneger of deals, breaker of contracts, deadbeat, grifter, and all-round crook who it is now absolutely crystal clear is a Russian asset. Whether he got to be so willingly or was just flattered and funded into the role is of no consequence. This is the guy who lied to all of Congress and the Country Tuesday. #SSDD

This is the guy who demanded not mutual respect with President Zelenskyy but the one-way respect that a movie gangster godfather asks, with an ”or else” attached. trump, of course, despises the very idea of standing up for democracy, soldiers being suckers and generals being dumb@sses in his view. And then there was the no-doubt planted question about the lack of a suit by Zelenskyy. It’s his uniform, he’s at war you pig-ignorant poltroons. trump’s characterization of the war was the most Orwellian stunt he’s pulled so far. Why not just say Zelenskyy invaded Ukraine?

We all want peace. We don’t want a peace dictated by putin or his puppet.

Dictator Trump lies about everything all of the time.

Did Traitor Trump ever mention housing, medical, food or jobs for Americans?

Republicans are anti Constitution supporters of war criminal Putin. Reagan destroyed Russia, Trump wants to put it back together again.

So, after that stirring speech of outright lies last night, I just have one question:

Is gas under $2/gal yet like Trump promised he would do before the election? This question has nothing to do with Biden and only with the actual words that Trump said when Trump made the promise.

It’s a yes or no question. I have to explain the type of question it is because some people don’t understand the word YET. And the only answer that is required to a yes or no question is “Yes” or “No.”

Let’s see who actually knows how to read.

There was a recent article in the local paper about a local business which had to lay off all its workers when its USAID contracts were pulled without warning. I know: what else is new?

Two things jumped out at me, though: one was the fact that they were not only cut off from future funding, but they were informed they would not be paid for work already performed.

The other thing was that the company’s owners requested its name not be used, for fear of reprisal.

This is where we are today, folks: people are afraid for their safety if they tell the truth. How did we get here? More importantly, especially with the Hater-in-Chief in the White House, how do we get back?

Hey, everybody! Guess who pays the tariffs. Consumers! And, guess where the money from the tariffs go. To the Treasury! Currently being raided by the fascists. So, it is a huge tax on us citizens (oops, I mean consumers) by those pretending to cut taxes and presenting the tariffs as a way to get companies to come to the US which would take years to implement, even IF companies wanted to invest in a country which is showing it won’t honor its commitments. We are being raped by this administration. In the meantime, we are fighting with each other while those at the top are laughing at their success in dividing us. Just sayin’

Trump’s Big Speech Aimed to Distract from What His Presidency has Really Wrought:

“What’s really happening in the administration? Trump and Musk are shutting down agencies and programs that Congress has funded but which they don’t like, which not only violates law requiring the disbursement of such funds but could have dramatic consequences for the lives of people both at home and abroad. He’s begun and plans to continue mass layoffs of federal workers—including at places like the Social Security Administration, which is responsible for both policing the waste, fraud, and abuse he despises as well as sending out checks. He’s shattered the core of American soft power by dismantling USAID and freezing foreign aid. None of these cuts change the trajectory of federal deficits in the slightest—and none of them root out meaningful “waste, fraud, and abuse,” an effort that requires both investment and staff—but they sure upset the apple cart in ways that will be felt both sooner and later.” [SLATE, 3/5/25]
