My command of Spanish is like that. I rarely hear or speak Spanish, so when someone speaks to me in that language, I mumble a reply and the next day recall what I should have said. In one case, I realized that I had told a little girl that the “she should call herself her mother”. I had thought that was just the “little girl blank stare” until that point.
