Not a real upper this morning . Sigh!

I do not want these allusions of reality. I know reality.Over my 50 years the names of my beloved friends would fill this box..I come here to remember, to remember the life.Not the end.

He better not be “leaving” !

Unfortunately, that is always too soon.

My son lost his Boston Terrier that he had gotten when he was four this last spring . He is 17 now and I really think it was still one of the hardest things he will ever have to do. Was horrible to watch him go through. Yoyo wasn’t just a pet, he was his best friend. There is a part of me that still grieves for every pet I have ever lost.

THE BEAUTY OF THIS TENDER RELATIONSHIP IS THAT IT IS A MOMENT IN TIME – I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE DOING

THE JOY OF VIEWING RED & ROVER EACH MORNING TO SEE WHAT THEY ARE UP TO IS PRICELESS. TODAY’S IS DISASTROUS & UNNECESSARY.

I’ve noticed that Red has gotten a little older over the years. It was probably inevitable that Rover would do a Farley.

A few months ago I made the same comment as Red’s dad in the first panel… and got pretty much shouted at things along the lines of “We don’t see all of Red’s life in the strip!” Well, there you have it.

Brian,Please tell us that today’s strip is NOT foreshadowing where you intend to go with Red and Rover…

Rover is am Angel.He will always be around.

Red will never lose Rover. Period!

A year or so ago, I e-mailed Brian about “Nurse” Rover taking the best care of RED when he is sick but I had never ever seen Rover sick… a limp yes but not a cold, loss of appetite, etc.

I would never ever want to see Rover/comic strip cross over to the bridge.

I loss my pup to cancer. I look at Rover and see her. That smile, tail wag, that uncertainty and sense of adventure.

Whoa, flood of tears :(…

Today’s strip is a real jolt. Three years ago in April we adopted a 12 year old Schnauzer named Penny. In the past few months she has gone completely deaf and her eyesight is failing. We knew when we brought her home with us that our time with her was precious as is life with anyone we love. Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring so love each moment you have those friends and family that make your life special.

In 2009, I believe it is 10/16, Brian had a comic of Red saying his prayers… “As Rover Lays himself down to sleep, I pray the Lord his soul to keep” and as Red is reciting that, Rover kisses him.

Please don’t let sadness into Red & Rover! We all know the reality. Let us have uplifting thoughts every morning. On the upside, thank you Brian for your excellent strip.

As I have said before, dog is god spelled backwards.It is how he walks among us, evaluating and judging our actions.So, always be sure to treat others with kindness and respect, especially dogs.

Good thing this is a comic strip and Red never has to grow up and lose Rover………right Brian?

Well, I haven’t been following Red & Rover very long but I do remember a little neighbor boy a couple of months ago appearing in the strip.

You can’t have a comic strip called “Red and Rover” without Rover!

IS ROVER GOING TO DIE SOON?! I can’t take it… i just can’t.

Does he have ANY friends other than Rover? Mom, you’d better make sure he has some practice with people skills before he REALLY needs them. Just buying a new dog won’t be enough.

Just posted a blog column on this sorrow when we lost a border collie to a seizure disorder last month. We had adopted (rescued) her just six months earlier and weren’t successful in tracking down the right treatment for her ailment. The vet said it’s basically trial and error with meds. She was only two, but spent the part of her brief life in “dog heaven” taking long walks on in the forests of the Pacific Northwest.

“A friend of mine had an Alsatian puppy…” Oh, how awful it must have been for your friend to lose her faithful companion after 10 years… Now they are together for forever…but, the sadness of their passing will always remain in her family’s’ and friends’ hearts. Try to remember the good times as much as you can… ;)

This is why it’s a good idea to get another dog when the first one is about 8 years old, so you won’t suddenly be “dogless” when the first dog dies. I wish I had done that. This coming Monday marks 15 years since my beloved Sheltie died; not a day goes by that I don’t think of him.

That’s terribly sad. You’d hope a 20-year-old woman would think before throwing her life away over something that was pretty much inevitable from the day she received her puppy. I understand the emotional pain, as I’ve been through it myself, but a 20-year-old has too much to live for to throw her life away like that.

I have seen Dad a few times in the strip as well as Mom, and Martin as well.

BRIAN, WHAT IS THIS? TOO SAD! ROVER MUST NEVER GO AWAY! HE IS THE LIFE FORCE FOR US WHO HAVE LOST OUR BELOVED PETS, AND THOSE WHO STILL HAVE OUR BELOVED PETS!

This strip is so joyful! Today’s was WAY TOO SAD!

I think the strip will end one day, but not with Rover dying! This is my favorite comic strip. I go here first thing in the morning :)

“Honey” (aka “Mom”) is wrong. When Rover is no longer around, Red will need someone who’s been a friend for a long time to help him get over the loss. Ask me how I know……

I won’t get another dog. I can’t go through that kind of grief ever again.

No need to back translate before spelling backwards.

That is a cruel thing to say!

You worship God in your way and I will worship Him in mine…

But have you ever noticed that whenever someone says that so-and-so has ‘few friends,’ it nearly always implies that it’s barely a step removed from having no friends? I’ve never understood the notion that when it comes to friendship, you’re supposed to meet some mandatory minimum — which, curiously, no one ever specifies. But fall below this mythical mandatory minimum, and that supposedly is cause for concern, mainly by those whose dictum is ‘all people, all the time.’ But what they don’t grasp is that not everyone is wired that way. There are those for whom ‘few’ is more than enough. And there those for whom it would mean the world to find even one.

I have a fear based on this panel and the recent ones testing our knowledge of their relationship. What if Brian is planning to retire and ends the strip with a plot like the movie “My Dog Skip”. Don’t think I could handle Rover passing.

That would be too late. Except in a comic strip.

Hello from January 17, 2022. I hit the random button and did this strip came up. Knowing what the future holds I took it different than people who read it eight years ago. I thought it showed how smart and caring Red’s Mom is knowing that Red is fine with Rover in his life.
