“My front claws itched.” sounds like a weak excuse. But it’s kind of like saying “I’m a dog. It’s what dogs do. It’s in our nature.”

What are backyards for, if not for digging?!

Poor Rover, let me help you and attend to your paws!!

The one paw up in the one panel is so true – an insecure, unsure dog will do that. Obviously Rover is a very happy and lucky and good dog, but he was probably a bit worried he was less loved when he got himself in the “dog house.”

Plus let’s face it – claws don’t itch. They are dead tissue, like our fingernails and hair. He was just “itching” to dig! Being a free-roaming dog, it’s amazing he doesn’t get into more trouble.

Itching claws would demand strongly to be scratched!

He was looking for the neighbor girl’s Barbie doll which you buried back there.

Good excuse…

Awwww! Poor Rover. He was only doing what a dog loves to do.

Yet an itching palm means you accept bribes.

I don’t know if they even have coir rugs available in the ’60’s. That would be the perfect thing for itchy claws, tho. Our Tom Dooley (cat) loves them!
